Boat Use: Salt Water
Boat Type: Rigid Inflatable
Engine Manufacturer: Mariner
Length (Feet): 11.2
For sale is our beloved Avon 3.4m (11.2ft) Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB) with a 25hp two stroke Mariner and fully galvanised trailer. Hours of fun have been had skiing or tubing with the kids, but they have now grown into large teenagers and we need something bigger and more powerful to accommodate our large family. Boat comes with a lot of extra kit included: 1. Electric start with kill-cord2. Automatic bilge pump3.
Navigation lights (I think there is a lose connection on the white light on top of the motor as it flickers sometimes)4. Compass5. Boat cover I put a new battery in last season and I am just charging it now to full capacity as it hasn't been used in 8 months or so. It started on first crank this evening once I had a bit of charge in the battery. Once in a while I've noticed the starter just "clicks" but this seems to be solved by pulling on the manual starter once or twice and then trying again. I think it may have to do with the alignment of the teeth between starter and engine, but I am no expert.
It's rare enough not to bother me. Motor was fully serviced at start of previous season but does need a service again now. Controls are a little stiff but usable. Fuel tank works but is long in the tooth and could do with replacement (gauge doesn't work any more) Trailer is in very good condition for the age and hasn't seen the water much. Always rinsed and washed completely and thoroughly after every use (salt water).
As can be seen from the pictures the boat's tubes need some TLC as I painted them at the start of last season to try and give them a freshening up as the original tubes - although not losing air and having no patches - were looking a little faded. Big mistake, because even though I used expensive Hypalon paint and followed the instructions precisely and spent days preparing, painting and repainting, the paint never took properly and peeled in places. It ended in a long argument with the paint manufacturer who claimed I didn't prepare the surface properly (I was meticulous about following the instructions and showed them photo evidence and eventually they refunded some of my paint costs, but not my countless hours of work). Anyway long story short, it can be used as-is, there is no functional issue with the tubes, it just doesn't look great. Alternatively you can peel the paint off back to the original which would look a darn sight better (in less than 10 mins I was able to peel the majority of the paint back on the one section of the rear tube without too much trouble.
The paint is very elastic and thus peels quite easily for the most part, so I think it should be possible on the rest of the sections too). Bottom line is this is the main reason why I am offering this boat for a considerably lower price than other comparable specs. It's a really nice and compact piece of kit (less than 4m long overall including the trailer so will fit into even a small garage). Easily pulled my son out the water last season (he probably weighed around 60kg at the time) with two people on the boat. Can easily carry 5 - 6 average sized adults (rated to 5 so don't exceed that!) and still get on to the plane without too much trouble.
