Here we have my Bayliner 1952 Capri cuddy cabin sports cruiser with 3.0 LX mercruiser 4 cylinder 135HP petrol inboard engine and alpha 1 gen 2 sterndrive. This is an unexpected and reluctant sale of a much loved boat but it seems that over the weekend I have done a deal to purchase a much more sensible and practical boat for the whole family to enjoy extended cruises, not just me disappearing for days on end - as nice as it was I couldn't get away with it forever! On a serious note i have owned this boat since 2015 and it has proved to be an excellent 110% reliable boat, not once has it let me down. Based at West Stockwith I have been able to cruise all the River Trent from Shardlow to Trent Falls and the Humber Estuary, have done West Stockwith to York in under 4 hours on the same tide, Torksey to Boston, The Trent and Mersey Canal and the River Soar all the way down to Market Harborough. In other words this boat is a good 'all rounder' and is extremely versitile, small enough to moor anywhere, low enough to clear any bridge, only 7'6" wide so can do anything from coastal cruising to broad beam canals and also puts a smile on your face when you open her up.
With a clean bottom she will do 40 odd mph whilst running at tickover on canals she proves to be very economical. It is easily equipped for extended cruising, I have spent 4 days on her at a time and has proved to be comfortable enough. A porta-loo fits in the cabin under the cushion infills for the double bed and offers 2 large storage lockers to each side. There is additional storage around the boat including side compartments, rear lockers and underfloor compartments. Once you get a pop up table, a camping stove, a good quality coolbox, water carrier and bowl you have all the facilities you need for a weekend away or more!
The rear seats turn into a sunlounger and the back to back seats also drop down to make beds too and are surprisingly good. The full 'pram canopy' is in excellent condition and at the highest point offers full standing headroom. All is in excellent condition including the side windows and fasteners. There is also a tonneau cover and full winter canopy included. When laying up each winter I always put both the tonneau cover and winter cover on in tandem which proved to keep all the water out.
The boat is in an all-round excellent condition for its age ('97), the cuddy cushions are all clean and tidy, the carpet is in good condition and the floor is solid. No soft or weak spots anywhere. It has obviously been looked after all its life with minimal use previously. The vinyl is also excellent, no rips or tears anywhere, for original vinyl it is in excellent order and still looks nice and modern. There is some suncream pink staining to the drivers seat white vinyl which should come out somehow but I haven't got round to do it yet but I plan on giving the boat a full valet as soon as I bring her back to its home mooring from her temporary mooring at Beeston this weekend.
I will intend to leave the boat in the water until it is sold so that water trails can be given to perspective purchasers. Please note joy rides will not be entertained so a deposit will need be left before any proper water trials are to take place. This will then be refunded off the purchase price. The lock is restricted by tide times so these will need to be accounted for should a full trial be necessary. The boat comes with a ROAD LEGAL FULLY BRAKED TRAILER.
This has only been used in the yard for launching and retrieving for the last 3 years but prior to this it pulled the boat all the way from Lytham St Anne's to where it is now swiftly. The wheels spin freely and the brakes work as they should but for safety you may want to give it a once over for piece of mind before towing it away. This can be done on site. I will include a pack of goodies for the new owner including a full set of fenders and matching ropes, mooring lines, a spare new tyre for the trailer, SAS trailer lock, sterndrive security lock, 2007 4hp auxiliary 4 stroke sailmate (long shaft) outboard motor, brand new set of genuine quicksilver anodes for the sterndrive and other related service and maintenance items I have in storage. The boat comes with VHF radio, depth gauge, a newly fitted DAB Pioneer Radio and upgraded speakers.
Mechanically and cosmetically for its age it is superb but does have a few small age related marks here and there as you would expect - nothing serious and is overall in great condition. It has always been serviced and winterised each year by a professional marine mechanic using genuine Mercruiser parts and fluids. If desired you may be able to keep the current mooring but you will need to speak to the CRT to arrange this. Any questions please don't hesitate to ask. I will be sad to see it go (genuinely).
