For most people, the concept of buying and owning a luxurious boat and only using it a few weeks each year makes it uneconomic. Look in any Marina and notice how infrequently the boats are moved.
The depreciation of the asset plus the maintenance and annual running costs are equally frightening. But taking a share in a boat is easily affordable and offers unrivalled value for money. There is nothing complex about sharing this way and no catches. The boat is owned and managed by the Southern Crusader Owners' Syndicate. Ownership of the boat is split into 35 fixed weeks, each year, with 12 weeks being syndicate-owned and are available to take as extra weeks for use by existing owners.
Four weeks are reserved for maintenance. The running costs are divided equally between the 35 weeks and is approximately £350.00 per week. The boat is owned by 24 like minded owners (some others have more than one week as well). Once you have purchased your share, all you will pay is the annual fee - around £350.00 - which covers your proportion of maintenance, mooring, insurance, replacement items, etc. Plus diesel and pump out if you use the boat.
This is fantastic value for money when you think that to hire the same boat in basic form as a Broads hire cruiser costs £860.00 - £1565.00 to hire. There are opportunities to take other members allocated weeks on payment of their annual fee (same as your fee - ie £350.00) if they are unable to take the week themselves. Or for other members to take your week on the same basis if you are unable to take your allocation, in which case your annual fee is reimbursed. It costs more than £350.00 to get any sort of holiday accommodation on the Broads for a week. But this luxury accommodation can also be taken on the rivers as well!
Initial Step You will want to come down to the mooring and view the boat to consider if you wish to proceed with the purchase. Visits can be arranged dependant on when owners are on board. All new owners must undertake a full days training with our trainer. This is charged extra and is £160.00 for a full day, usually the first full day of your week. This ensures a good level of competency and provides each owner with a clear understanding of how to operate the boat confidently.
Mooring The boat is moored at Brundall Bay Marina in Brundall, Norfolk where it has mains electricity and water. A Pub and a Cafe for food and refreshments plus showering/cloakroom facilities. Brundall Train Station is also a close walk for trips into Norwich, Lowestoft and Great Yarmouth Boat Southern Crusader is a Birchwood 340AC, custom-built in 1999 at a cost of around 250,000. It has 4 berths and 2 shower rooms (master stateroom with en_suite). The boat has a high specification with a 240v generator for those important hair dryers and straighteners when you are without shore power, flat screen tv/dvd, warm air heating system for year round cruising comfort and a brand new DAB/CD radio with MP3 player connectivity. https://www.youtube.com/watch?
