Glastron SX175 3.0L Petrol Inboard 135hp Speed Boat-Spares Or Repair

1999 Glastron SX175 3.0 litre petrol inboard 135hp Bowrider / Speedboat / Wakeboard & Ski boat with trailer and wake tower - presently not running so selling for spares or repair. The Good Bits The boat has been in the water and used throughout the Summer. The stern drive, steering, electrics and hull are all in good to average working condition, with a few relatively new parts including the distributor, carburettor (refurbished). It also has a full tank of fuel! The boat has thick wad of service documents and has been serviced before and after each season for the last few years with no expense spared.

The engine underwent a complete overhaul about 5 years ago. The trailer has 2 brand new wheels, a brand new unbraked axle and brand new jockey wheel. The frame is in good, unrusted condition with the coupling section in average condition. The wake tower is in very good condition and comes with board storage brackets. Used for wakeboarding this summer.

The wake tower also has a solar trickle charger fitted which is working fine and charging the two batteries. The Bad Bits It developed some engine problems a few weeks ago and has been out of the water since then. The diagnosis is a cracked cyclinder head and it will also need new valves and springs. It has been taken apart so much of the labour involved in diagnosis and stripping down has been done, just needs the parts replacing now. I can't afford to have the work done (probably looking at £1000-£1200 to fix with a new cyclinder head around £600).

Clearly a saving for someone who knows how to do this themself. The temperature gauge needs replacing as the cause of the damage was over heating but this wasn't picked up because the gauge seemed to be reading ok. The electric trim control works, but the trim gauge does not so you have to visually check the angle of the drive in the water. This has never bothered me but in the interests of being as honest as I can with what needs doing is worth mentioning. A couple of the seats have minor tears in which have been sealed to prevent further damage.

It's an 18 year old boat and consequently has a few blemishes, rust spots in the engine bay and could do with a deep clean. Having said that, I think it has a lot of life in it for someone willing to put the time, effort and money into it. The trailer alone is probably worth £800-£1000 so my thoughts are that someone buying it now as a project to fix up over the winter will have a good running boat and trailer in time for next spring for about £3000-£3500 all in. A new turn key engine is another option I considered (but quickly reconsidered when I mentioned it to the wife) which you can get for £4900. I paid £5000 for the boat less than a year ago.
