Push pit rails now fitted but not shown in these photos. We have owned The Cheshire Cat for 18 months and have spent every available weekend on her. We had six week long breaks last year including in February.
We have just found our next boat so we need to sell our Hampton. If we could afford both we'd keep her. She's comfortable, easy to use, warm and dry inside. She is fitted with shore power, 2 large domestic batteries and a large starter battery. The 12 volt charging system consists of the alternator, a large solar panel and an MPPT solar controller.
You could easily fit a 240 volt battery charger but I've never need to use one. There are 12 volt sockets on the dash board, and plenty of interior lighting throughout the boat. There are red and green navigation lights, and a white stern light. It doesn't really matter on the Broads but there should be a white all round light on top as well. There is a spot light included which fits in a bracket on the front, and plugs into a deck socket.
We never had the cover for this socket so I disconnected the wiring to it. Easy enough to reconnect if you want to blind yourself at night. There is also a solar powered PIR light on the back which is nice and bright and comes on if you get within about 10 feet. The engine is a 1.5 BMC diesel, thornycroft conversion, and the gear box is a PRM 140 2:1. These have both been cared for and serviced as necessary.
The filters and oil were changed less than a month ago. The propeller is 14x15 which is a bit too big for the boat. I have an unused 14x13 which is far more suitable and is included in the sale. I've also got 13X8 which would be perfect if it span the right way ! She has a 160 litre fuel tank and 400 litre fresh water tank fitted.
This will keep you going for a week and take you round the entirety of the Norfolk broads several times. The low 6'6" airdraft means you can get to every part of the broads. We have been under Potter Heigham bridge a few times. Unless you've visited the broads you won't understand just how peaceful and beautiful it is to be away from the hordes of hire boats in the middle of summer. She has a hot water calorifier which is heated by the engine and gives you enough hot water for a 5 minute shower.
I re-plumbed the tank last year and fitted a new pressure relief valve and Jabsco fresh water pump recently. She is fitted with genuine Planar 4kw blown air diesel heater. This is not a chinese copy, it was over £500 new and I spent a further £100 on the exhaust system and skin fitting for the boat. If you don't want to keep the heater it will take me 5 minutes to remove, as it is pretty much self contained behind the grill you can see below the drivers seat. It heats the whole boat from here.
No need for extra pipework and outlets and you can barley hear it from the bedroom. It runs from its own 7 litre fuel tank so you will never use up the diesel from the main tank. She is fitted with a great little 240 volt fridge with ice box, which runs off the shore power or inverter. We have a 2000 watt £800 pure sine wave inverter which we will be taking with us. I can fit a suitable replacement for the new owner once I know their requirements.
The little gas cooker works well but needs a bit of encouragement sometimes. If you use propane instead of butane it will work better. I have a couple of empty gas bottles which you're welcome to if you don't have any. There are front and back covers included which keep the wind and rain off the back door, and keep the front windows clear overnight. They are easily rolled up and stored on the roof.
I have a set of push pit rails fitted to the boat however when we took the photos we were waiting for a couple of brackets to show up. They've been fitted now and I'll get a photo next weekend. We are planning on mooring our new boat where this one is now, but would be prepared to give up the mooring for the new owners if the sale depends on it. Payment by bank transfer or cash only on the day of handover. Large deposit required after sale agreed.
Please do not assume you are getting a mooring with the boat. If you don't ask before buying there is a very good chance you will have to find your own. The broads toll will need paying soon. It is £298. We will not be paying it as it is cheaper to get the boat lifted out of the water and stored, also we have to pay a £400 toll for our new boat !
We are paying around £110 a month for the mooring. There are electric points and water close to the boat and a toilet block further along the marina. I have hundreds of photos and videos of the boat, if you are genuinely interested just ask and I can send them to you.
