Inboard Hurley 20' Bilge Keel for Sale. Selling due to upgrade. Please note that is a project and needs work before it can go back on to the water. Located at an estuary yard between Southport and Preston with permission for the new owner to take on the existing hard standing where she lies now. Fees are approx.
£105 a month or circa £700 annually and you will need to sign up with the yard if you want to take on the spot after winning the auction. Great, friendly yard. I will include any remaining days/weeks for the yard rental contract as part of the auction so that you can transfer this in to your name when required but the switchover will need to be done ASAP. Alternatively, there is a Crane on facility at the yard for circa £90 and she can be moved on to a trailer to go elsewhere if required. Again, she will need to be moved within two weeks of the auction ending.
The Good;-Sound hull with VERY thick grp with no osmosis (last repair was carried out circa 2019 by the previous owner - pics available of the work being carried out). She has been on the hard for a number of years too.-New professionally made Spray dodgers, Summer 2021.-New plexi glass companion way hatch and vent - Summer 2021.- New interior steps Summer 2021.-Chunky Oak tiller. Stained and just needs varnishing. -New sink and pump tap installed Summer 2021 (needs to be plumbed up to existing waste water tank and a water source for which there is significant space in the front to have a flexible water tank).-Good set of sails. A very small tear on the main sheet approx 1cm which is perfectly repairable and a hank on jib sheet in good condition.-Comes with a full Vetus 3 part 'recommended' exhaust kit including the the thru-hull exhaust surround and a length of Vetus pipe that just needs to be installed along with a new suitable inboard.
-Comes with mast and boom in fine condition. Lines need a clean. -Comes with a new automatic bilge pump (not fitted).-Original Tuffnall winches and winch handles.-Various paints and bits will be included to finish off jobs (bilge, boot top etc) The Average;-Cushions are getting scruffy and will either need to be replaced or recovered. One small V berth cushion is missing. I had planned to do this over the Winter but haven't got around to it so far.
-Tarped up for Winter but she has got a leak in from somewhere still. One of the deck drains to the hull has been removed so as to keep the rain water out by draining it through the hull.-I've started painting the bilge to the front of the cabin but the engine bay still needs to be fully cleaned out to complete. The paint comes with the boat to finish the job.-There is an engine present (BMW) but it's more of an anchor. It has been removed from the boat but is still there if you want to strip it for any parts or spares. There is also a set of throttle controls and morse cables that are included which appear to be fully working.-The rear lazarette hatch was repaired and repainted in Summer.
Same with the front although it is loose and not fitted on yet and still needs a coat of waterproofing paint to finish.-The top hatch has an ongoing repair. It works fine but was a mess to start with due to old flaking Treadmaster so it's been stripped back then repaired with body filler but due to the Winter hasn't been sanded back yet prior to painting. There is filler and paint left on the boat to finish this job. Hatch itself works fine.-Will need some woodwork and varnishing to the existing wood. The bad;-Winter hasn't been very kind to her so far.
I check on her every few weeks and despite the tarp, water is getting in so this will be something that needs to be looked at. A new inspection hatch was fitted back in Summer but like the old one, it continues to leak in and will be better bedded in with butyl tape as opposed to Sikaflex which I used so that will need to be redone. As such, I'm fighting off the damp as best I can for the next owner but please be aware that she will need fixtures and fittings rebedded come Summer to get her watertight again and attention in the cabin due to this.-Despite having an encapsulated keel (aka no keels falling off randomly through rotted bolts) she does have twin keel struts made of steel that have significantly corroded that are designed to keep a degree of tension on them. These aren't difficult to repair but will need two new ones fabricated. Despite the corroded beams, the keels are in good condition.-Electrics have been removed so this is a blank canvas for the new owner to install solar and some devices etc.
I have plenty more pictures if you require them, so please do ask. As it's a project, there are plenty of jobs for someone to do here and despite the age she's a solid boat that I've had spent nights on during Summer. She's comfortable for two and would benefit someone with the time to restore her to full potential. I'm moving another boat on to the yard in the next few months, so I'll be around for whoever decides to take her on and if you keep her there then I'll be around most weekends if you need anything. Please don't bid if you are expecting a boat ready to sail.
I've tried to include as much of the good the bad and the ugly as I can and there is plenty to do on this boat before she hits the water again. Also note that there is a 10% non-refundable deposit after the auction ends to be paid within 48 hours. We can handover in person at the yard once the details are sorted. If you wish to view her and are local then she is stored at Douglas Marine at the far end. Alternatively, if you want me to be present then I am free most weekends for serious buyers.
