The boat has her Mayland registration plate the number 3903 can just be made out. According to the internet there was a Mayland 14ft Blue Belle with the same serial number registered on the Thames. Whether this is the same Blue Belle I don’t know. The previous owner was a professor.
He sailed her on Loch Fyne for 15 years plus. I bought her to sale up and down The Crinan Canal Plus a bit of fishing with my autistic son. Recently we have got involved with the charity Autism On The Water and use the boats Murray has. My son is delighted with Murray and his two boats and the other people he meet’s through this. I was going to get the canal passport hence the VHF on her.
I took her to Loch Nell fishing last year and we were floating about with the engine of, sailing up and down the loch on a breezy day start and stop all day no hiccups. 20HP Mercury 1999 Serial Number OPO23516 2 stroke Engine. I believe this model was specifically designed for salt water but also fresh as well. Starts every time without choke. Choke there if you want but starts without it first turn of the key usually.
3rd turn of the key today 27/03/2022 as I hadn’t started it since October. The outboard was bought from a lobster fisherman who had it as a backup engine he then bought another boat so this outboard was surplus it also had a new starter motor fitted. The boat is painted throughout with Marine high-quality paint undercoated and glossed. Anti-fouling paint to the bottom. The Cabin has been insulated then carpeted with waterproof carpet to act as a damp barrier and to keep the cabin warm for sleeping or keeping out of the West Coast elements not the sunny one.
All ballast chambers are still in the boat as original design and unlike a lot of these boats removed to allow the fitting of chairs, cookers, toilets, shelves, storage etc as you see on the internet. All water tight drainage plugs are accessible to the ballast for removal of possible condensation or water build up. I have to share this one with you about a Mayland on YouTube the exact same boat as Blue Belle and the guy had taken all the ballast out and fitted a cooker a loo and a sink and maybe a couple of captains swivel chairs. I always like reading the comments. The boat looked great and the guy at great length explaining how he did this and how he did that.Eventually someone asked have you still got the boat or did you sell it?
No, the boat sank one day when I had four people on it. The guy asked it sank how?. The owner says it just sank it went straight down I think there was too much weight in it. Sorry folks no prizes for why. Some of the contentGarmin Striker4 with protective cover.Full tank of fuel.Fire extinguisher.Small First Aid kit.
