Nelson 34 - Unfinished Boat Project

This is an ex Royal Navy 34ft Nelson aft-cabin cruiser that was decommissioned in the early 1980s and had been left open to the elements in a boat yard for many years. Over the course of a year and in my spare time I have removed all the internals and repaired the several points of minor damage to the hull (all above the waterline). This damage had been inflicted on the outside surfaces of the hull on occasions over the years when it was moved around in the boatyard before I bought it.The interior has been stripped out, thoroughly cleaned and given a first coat of paint and is ready for fitting out, installation of engines and control gear. It has the prop shaft tubes and bronze prop shaft hangers already fitted and it comes with the 2 x 40 gallon original copper fuel tanks. I have erected a steel-pipe hangar over the boat to facilitate work in unfavourable weather (this needs a new polythene cover) along with a long ladder, scaffold frames and stepsThe boat is now a blank sheet waiting for someone who has the time, resources and enthusiasm to make her up into a live-aboard or coastal/river cruiser.The hull - full GRP - was built to a high Ministry of Defense specification to the Peter Thornycroft design, and is of very good quality even though at the moment it looks pretty scruffy as I have not yet sanded down and painted the GRP repairs I have done.

I have the original MOD registration plate for the boat which was the Admiral's tender boat from his flagship HMS Blake, a missile cruiser decommissioned in 1984.There is a Nelson association both here and in the Netherlands for Nelson enthusiasts.
