For Sale: "SPEY DREAM" An amazing example of how Buckie Shipyard in Scotland used to make boats. Manufactured in 1963, number 5, official number 303715. Made for the 1964 London Boat Show to show off Buckie's engineering. It's testament to their over engineering that she's still "alive" today. As a project boat she would be perfect, even as a future live aboard (which is her history for some years previously).
In a state of repair as she stands, she sits on the hard at Cobbs Quay Marina in Dorset. She has so far had a bare wood rub down on the hull to undercoats and top coats, new annodes and antifowling. She was re-launched but a soft plank meant she was pulled from the water again. Later inspection suggests this wasn't required but she is currently in that state of repair on the hull (bolts removed but plank still in place above the prop). Internally she is as you would expect for a project that is now being sold still in project form.
What was left of the bunks has been removed, various walls to the main cabin have been dug away at to remove damp/rotten wood. The whole interior is in need of repair to differing degrees, but is the perfect blank canvas to design the interior and deck out as you wish. She has a galley and front double cabin, a heads with sink (no longer a toilet, previous owner was using a chemical one though), my plan was to open it all up to make a larger galley. Steps up to the main "lounge" area mid-ships, which allows access to the bridge via steps and steps down to the aft accommodation, consisting of one bathroom to the left, (shower, toilet: not working and sink), to the right a single cabin and to the aft a double cabin. Cold water pump works but the gas hot water doesn't.
This is obviously for someone who has some money to "do her up" or the knowledge and aptitude to repair themselves. The scope for this is phenomenal and would be perfect for a live aboard up on the Thames or canals in France (you could even leave her at Cobbs for a coastal retreat!). It does need a LOT of work on top, but the hull is excellent and to commission a build again of this structure would cost you an awful lot of money. Irrelevant to the cost of the boat but still mentioning: included a desktop fridge, battery charger, 4 new fenders and rope. Chemical toilet is from previous owner.
The engines are "old school" Parsons, made in Southampton in 1963, 6 cylinder 100mm diameter pistons Twin Screw 172 bhp, estimated 12 knots. Last run approx. 2012. NO GUARENTEE'S on anything I'm afraid, at least the old engines are renowned for longevity and reliability. I have the original certificate of registry and details of owners up until 1990. I have press copy from the boat show etc, but that is all the paperwork I have.
Now the moan part.......I'm aware this may attract a lot of, shall we say "rudder kickers" but please don't waste my time or yours, this is for serious buyers who know what they want and what they get with these types of boats. This boat needs some investment and time to create something special, if you have neither (I've run out of investment) then please look elsewhere. Thanks! I have loads more photo's but have had to pick the 12 to represent to boat, please E-mail me if you require more pics: email. Thanks.
