16 ft Shakespeare speed boat by Wave Rider with 85hp outboard motor. Bill Shakespeare was a powerboat legend who won international races and broke world records. He was the first British driver of a British boat to join the exclusive list of those who have driven at 100 mph on water. Together with a brilliant engineer, Frank Woodstock, he started William Shakespeare (Boatbuilders) Ltd in 1959. He used his racing to develop a first class range of speed boats but was tragically killed during practice for a 3 hour Grand Prix on Lake Windermere.

Later on when the Shakespeare company stopped production, the moulds for the hulls were bought by Wave Rider who built and marketed this one as Summersport 16. So that’s a brief history of this beautiful boat! 16 foot Shakespeare hull. Suzuki 85 hp. 3 cylinder 2 stroke.

Oil injection. Electric start. Power trim and tilt. De-winterised ready for this summer season. 20 litre removable petrol tank (which is in use currently) is included.

There is a much larger built in petrol tank in the bow but the rubber squeeze bulb by the engine needs replacing before this is used. I have a short video showing engine starting and running this year. A nice looking boat which with some TLC will be fabulous. Snipe galvanised trailer with break-back which can make it much easier to launch/retrieve in shallower waters. This boat has had quite an easy life having been used mainly inland and only seeing salt water occasionally at annual holidays.

Even then it was always retrieved each day and washed down. There are the normal age related marks but the sacrificial anodes are the original and show virtually no wear.
