16ft GFRP sailing boat Model Seasafe DandyName KingfisherLength 15’8in/4.78mDraught 1’2in/0.36m DOES NOT INCLUDE OUTBOARD(we used a 4hp motor on it which was plenty capable enough, you can pick up a second hand one for £200-£400) Cosmetic work required only, other than that this boat is ready to sail. Hull is sound, anti fouling is starting to chip but can last til the end of the season. White paintwork is fine. Blue paintwork could use stripping back and redoing at some point. Doesn’t affect the use just looks a bit rough and ready.
There are a couple of very small holes where we’ve removed some handles etc but I’ve got a tin of GFRP filler that I’ll include. Would take 5 minutes to fill, wouldn’t have thought they’re even big enough to let any water in. New window seals have been recently installed and cleats added to the roof. Outside deck boards are fine. Wood holding them all together could do with replacing as it’s now in three pieces (it actually makes it easier to remove).
Rain cover included that clips onto the roof and hooks over the outside seating bit to the back. I should add that there isn’t a door to the inside (it’s somewhere at the bottom of the River Hamble), it was a swing door that mostly just got in the way. We had plans to replace it with a slatted style one, then it can be packed away in a hatch while sailing. Bilge pump is a manual, brass one (hoses included), bit of a workout but you don’t get any water inside unless you put it there by washing inside or leaving the cover off. Works really well.
We’ve also recently put pulleys on both port and starboard for the jib sheets. As well as for the main sheet (pictured) all included along with ropes. Fenders also included. Minor cuts on the jib sail (pictured) we patched it with sail tape and have bought some sail fabric (included) but never got round to fixing it as you can still sail with it as is. Main sail is in perfect condition.
The boom is detachable (has cover) and the mast folds down for transport (or for low bridges!). Inside definitely needs a paint, we’ve scraped/stripped as much as we can off so should be ready to paint. We’ve recently upholstered the main seating cushions. We have the old back cushions and a triangular shape one for the bow (included), again just never got round to doing those. We spent a night or two on the boat when we took it to the Isle of Wight, pretty comfy for a small boat!
Fire extinguisher included too. We’ve put a new, very sturdy floor down over the bilge. Access panel by the door. Hatch covers are new too, just need some handle or holes drilled to pull them up easily. Lights have seen better days.
There is a battery hook up in the cupboard but we’ve never tested whether the electrics work (ones fallen down). We bought new Nav lights which are included, still in their box. Also included are two brand new anchors (pictured). We’ve only used one once as normally we’ll go into a marina. The trailer has had new tyres fitted this year (bearings are leaking grease but are fine to drive for now, new grease and grease gun included).
Mud guards are a bit tight over the new tyres, we’ve just bent them up which works fine. It has a winch that helps you lower the boat into the water. The handle for it is missing but a crow bar or something similar works just fine. We’ve always found it really easy to get the boat on and off the trailer and very secure when it’s on. Again paint is starting to chip but nothing needs doing to use it for a long time.
We can deliver to a local address (Southampton) if required. A bit of a project if you want it to look pretty, other than that a lovely little sail boat perfect for a new or part-time sailor!
