22' Bilge Keel Sailing Yacht

The Kestrel 22 was conceived as a small, inexpensive sailing cruiser suitable for weekend "creek crawling" in shallow waters. Sleeping up to four people in two cabins with a separate heads (with Simpson & Lawrence sea toilet) this is a surprisingly spacious and well designed boat for its size. The twin bilge keels with shallow draft (2' 3") enable drying out in remote creeks away from the crowds. This tired example, is in need of some superficial work but comes complete with Main sail, Furling Genoa headsail, and Cruising chute all in good serviceable order plus other older sails. Fenders, halyards, sheets, mooring ropes, plough anchor with 25m rode (10m chain and 15m rope) second "fisherman's" anchor boat hook and various other "useful" sailing items all included along with automatic life jackets (due servicing), electric and manual bilge pumps, and a horseshoe lifebuoy.

Onboard electronics (untested) include VHF radio, NASA "Target" depth sounder and speed log instruments, port starboard stern and masthead navigation lights, and cabin lighting with battery being charged via solar panel on transom. On board stainless steel petrol tank to supply an outboard engine to fit in designated cockpit well (Yamaha F4A 4 stroke, with low hours, available by separate negotiation) Very easy to sail being masthead Bermudan sloop rigged with furling headsail and rolling boom mainsail reefing plus the added safety of the self draining cockpit with a well for an outboard engine. Down below the main cabin has twin berths with storage under, folding table, two burner gas stove (supplied from camping gaz bottle in self draining cockpit locker) and sink with electric pumped fresh water from removable water container. Forward cabin with storage under V berth and opening forehatch. Midships Heads (sea toilet) with storage / hanging space opposite.

With a bit of time and inclination the work required (cleaning, rubbing down, painting / varnishing, repairing woodwork - hatches, rubbing strip, locker tops ect.) is well within the capabilities of the average DIYer giving her the potential for more adventures as a great family cruiser / first boat.
