This is a reluctant but rational auction of my Eboat ‘Eros’. Sail number 95 Please read full description before bidding. I have owned the boat since around 2009 and had some enjoyable seasons sailing around the harbour along with a couple of trips across the Solent to the Isle of Wight. Sadly due to other not so fun commitments and working within a growing family business my spare time has been rapidly consumed and Eros has not been on the water for about 5 years. Please, Please, Please be aware that this auction is being classed as a project boat and is not fit for sailing without some restoration, repair and tidying.
As you will see from the photos that last year I had a burst of enthusiasm and attempted to repair, tidy up and hopefully enjoy a couple more seasons. However I did not find the time to complete it in that year or this year and I have come to the rational but regretful conclusion that this revival will not happen under my ownership and it is time to put Eros on the market. I have taken out some of the old head lining as the foam backing had turned to dust. So there needs to be a bit of internal love care to be expected. The deck fittings, sails, boom, rudder, etc have been removed and dry stored for safety as well as helping to fully repaint the deck and sides, which I have done in a marine white paint (apart from the stern).
Deck fittings will need to be refitted. Like most Eboats Eros suffers from some rot/dampness within the hulls wooden (plywood?) cross beams but I have managed to keep her dry in order for to be treated or strengthened (see photos). Eros is also sitting on a De Graaf heavy duty trailer which was clearly an ‘add on’ from the last owner as it was poorly supporting the hull with the use of just rollers. I have therefore modified the trailer to give the hull a bit more support as I had notice that rollers had caused a crack to an area of the hull which will need looking at (see photo). The trailer has only been used twice (in my ownership) for launching with all other occasions Eros has been hoisted from trailer to water and water to trailer.
However and due to the length of time that the trailer and boat have sat majority in one place I would strongly advise the bidders to consider inspecting the trailers wheels, tyres, bearings and supports for a safe onward journey home. In terms of the sails, they are not the original but they are also not new, but the do the job. I believe there is 1 Main sail and 3 different sized Jibs/Genoa and one spinnaker with snuffer (see photos) I have taken a picture of the four internal seat/bed cushions to show that covers may need renewing dependent on desired overhaul. Sadly within the time Eros was on land, I have had the outboard and the outboard bracket stolen, the trailer jockey wheel swapped with a duff one and a couple of shackles/pins and 1 x pulley removed, otherwise I believe ‘Eros’ remains mainly intact. There are some other bits and bobs like an anchor, fenders etc.
All in all I do not consider this to be a horrendous project, it just requires someone with the correct amount of time and reasonable skills. Sadly I can only add a set number of photos to this auction page, so if you are looking for any particular aspect please let me know. The boat itself is located at Langstone sailing Club, Havant PO9 area and my preference is that the auction is open to bidders are outside of the club membership which is for no other reason than to start a new chapter in my life as this has been a long decision and prefer to move forward without looking back or being reminded at what could been. *The boat will need to removed at a reasonable time (around 14 days) once payment is confirmed and the new owners have had time to perform a trailer safety check or make any modifications to the trailer to ensure a safe journey could be completed*. We may also need to arrange with the club as other boats have now been lifted out of the water for winter TLC and could be blocking access.
Payment is via Paypal and please remember that you are bidding to win, not book a viewing and with an attempt to haggle. I am an open and honest person, I will help in any way I can and if you have any questions feel free to email me (I may share your question & my response if it helps inform other watchers/bidders). Happy bidding
