Van de Stadt Pioneer 9, Bermudan sloop rigged yacht designed by the legendary fast boat designer Van-de-stadt and built in GRP layup. The Pionier 9 was designed for the Fastnet race and in fact won its class for several years. They were described by the press at the time as "wind driven torpedoes". Built in the early days of GRP, she has a reassuringly thick hull to push through waves whilst allowing for flex. Although low to the water, she is surprisingly dry and comfortable with the spray hood up.Double berth forwardSingle in saloonSingle pilot berthMarine headsGas double hob with grill underneathStainless steel sink with hand pump cold water systemCaravel is a very fast boat ready for a loving owner. She is useable as she is as a day cruiser and has had her mast, boom, standing and running rigging, and her windows replaced within the last 10 years, and the engine is currently in the engineers workshop having had a rebuild.
It will be reinstalled for purchase. She needs some love to bring her back to her prime. To give you an idea of jobs that would bring her back:New electronics (VHF, chartplotter, wind instruments, and depth sounder)Fit electric bilge pumpReupholster (the 1970's brown is not to everyone's taste!!)Deck paintHull paintSand and varnish interior woodwork (or paint nice and bright)Sand and oil external woodworkPossibly a Solar panel to keep batteries topped upNew gib (there is one included)Fit a saloon tableNew tricolour required and probably some bulbs in nav lights Items done/replaced in the last 10 years:Whale manual bilge pump replacedWater tank cut out and replaced with a flexible tank with deck filling point fittedMast, Boom, standing rigging, running rigging, roller reefing (Harken) replacedWindows replacedEngine rebuilt and awaiting refitting (will be done for sale)New batteries (Engine 2017, domestic 2016) As far as bits and pieces on board go, there is a locker full off boat stuff including mooring strops for swinging mooring, fenders, warps, spare diesel, bosuns chair. She has a good mainsail. The roller furling gib is an old hanked on sail that has had a wire run up to use on the furling, it works fine but does not have a sacrificial strip. The spray hood is good. To sum up - she represents great value for a very fast "go anywhere" cruiser that with a bit of work will make a great boat.Feel free to send any questions or let me know if you want to come and have a look.On 19-Jun-18 at 16:03:55 BST, seller added the following information: She is currently ashore.
Her normal mooring is available for you to take on if required. Its a great mooring in Plymouth close to the Sound on the River Plym. Her fees for this year are paid, but there would be a club joining fee to pay (circa £250 from memory). The annual fee for the mooring is circa £300 and is available from end of March to End of November.
