Labelled the MO40 she is a 40 ft OAL Motor Sailer with duties as a sailing Race Committee Boat as part of the design brief.
Designed to be built in steel with twin bilge keels and a skeg hung rudder to enable her to take to the ground in a stable position if required and to be stored ashore without the need for a cradle and props. Construction of the hull was by Osbourne Fabrications overseen by the owner. Internal fitting out by Steve Taylor joiner, she was built in the remaining war time aircraft hanger at Silverstone Motor Racing Circuit. The construction of the hull was to a high standard with frames at 20" spacing , steel floors and the chines are of 1" solid steel rods. The construction is with twin bilge keels which were each of 1 1/2 Tons and were custom made by Henry Irons of Appledore, The rudder is hung on a substantial skeg.
This configuration allows Sorebones 3 to take to the ground in an upright position and when ashore no boat cradle or other supports are required for stability. During the past period since launching Sorebones 3 has acted as Committee Boat at domestic,national, International and world championships including RYA Olympic Trials. She has also performed duties as CB for The Royal Thames Yacht Club in the Solent including duties at Cowes Week . She has acted as CB at over 400 events (That is events not days) and is very well known on the South Coast. She has become available because she is no longer required to do duties at the Sailing Academy since they have just been given a new catamaran committee boat by the RYA.
She had a detailed survey six years ago and all new standing rigging was fitted six years ago. The engine has been regularly serviced by Dan Stuttle and repairs or replacements made if required. A control box enables main ( Engine / windlass ) power and ' Ancillary services to be separately switched. 4x 100 + amp hour batteries, two for engine and two for ancillaries. A large bow cabin with glazed hatch and double berth plus built in drawers and cupboards.
The main saloon has comfortable seating round a centre table with provision to act as a double berth. Separate 'Heads' with toilet and wash bowl and has its own cabin window. The Galley is at the aft end of the saloon with work area, storage, double stainless sinks with hot and cold tap. The newly fitted cooker has self ignition function on the two gas rings, grill and an oven, The hot water is from a calorifier connected to the engine. The aft cabin has a double bunk and storage, like the bow cabin and heads it has its own door to give privacy.
The saloon, cabins, and heads are entered from the large wheel house. Beneath the wheel house floor is engine access and electrics via a hatch.InventoryNavigation equipment: Navigation is aided by the B&G Hydra 2000 system for wind direction, strength, boat speed & depth etc. Marine radio in the wheelhouse plus there is also a fitting that provides talk / hoot facility to an outside loud speaker and automatic fog signal Port side chart table with Yeoman Plotter and GPS plus the control for the Radar.Safety equipment: Electric bilge pump.Deck equipment: 1500w Vetus electric windlass with 14 m heavy chain and strong anchor warp, Heavy Bruce anchor, Steering is from two positions, one in wheelhouse on the starboard side and the other in the large cockpit in the stern, Cockpit lockers.
