It is with a heavy heart that I am offering my beautiful narrowboat ‘The Rose’ for sale. She is a 57’ traditional and the first boat built by Doug Moore in Barnoldswick, 1985. Powered by a 1991 Ruston Hornsby 2YD giving her that charming pop when underway. She has an interesting history, especially to someone from Lancashire or familiar with Barnoldswick and Doug Moore boats. The distinctive bow is long with a spacious gas locker and ample room on the front deck itself for seating and storage.
Entering the boat from the bow there is a long living space with a Morso squirrel stove with back boiler to two radiators. I have added a free standing sofa and dining area around the original fit out. The kitchen has a Thetford gas oven with grill and 4 burners, gas boiler for instant hot water, cupboards and sink. In the bathroom is a Dometic cassette toilet, basin with underneath storage and bath with shower over. Next is the engine room, with ample storage for tools and coats.
The diesel tank is beneath the floor. The Ruston is speed wheel controlled which is very easy to get used to and adds to the vintage style! Side hatches are on both sides of the engine room and a pigeon box is on the roof. To the stern is a traditional boatmans cabin with excellent quality scumble, roses and castles by J.P Ball. I use the cabin as a bedroom; there is plenty of storage and the cupboard folds down to a double bed.
An Epping stove keeps the cabin lovely and warm, and is great when cruising on chillier days. Water is stored in a large stainless steel water tank, which can last two people a week with moderate use. Water is also heated from a calorifier, situated under the bed in the boatmans cabin which can provide hot showers after a few hours cruising. There are three new leisure batteries on board and two starter batteries along with a 600W inverter. The engine has two alternators to accommodate the starters and leisure batteries.
There is a connection and RCD unit for a shoreline but I have needed to use one. I fitted a 260W solar panel this year which means I barely have to run the engine at all for power, especially in the summer months. The Rose was repainted about five years ago, and blacked and surveyed in February this year. If you would like to see a copy of the survey please let me know and I can forward it to you. No significant damage is present and she is in overall excellent, sound condition, however a few deep pits are advised to be filled with weld on the next dry docking.
She has stunning lines characteristic of these boats and cuts elegantly through the water, I will miss her terribly along with the lifestyle, however I have found myself in a place I would like to stay and would like to get on the property ladder, so she now deserves a forever home herself. She would suit someone with a passion for canal history, diesel enthusiasts, holiday makers and liveaboards alike. I have found the engine easy to navigate and work on and would trust it to take me anywhere. It had an oil and filter change in October this year. She is moored on the desirable Llangollen canal on a peaceful offside spot.
Moorings available on separate negotiation with the landowner. Please feel free to get in touch with any questions you may have or to arrange a viewing. Thanks for looking! Hayley phone Normal 0 false false false EN-GB X-NONE X-NONE
