Thanks for checking out my listing. Here we have a listing for my beloved 60ft barge. Firstly I will make it clear that this does NOT have an engine, there are a couple of ways of fitting one though. I purchased "Melvin" back at the beginning of last year with a view to converting to a comfortable liveaboard home. Since then I have changed jobs, split from my partner and struggled to find a suitable mooring.
This boat would make an ideal project for someone looking for a cheap houseboat, liveaboard or possibly something different for glamping !!! It has bags of potential and could be turned into a superb home. The boat was basically sold until the new buyer realised that at 6ft 4 he was too tall for any narrow boat !!!! When I first brought the barge it was basically a bare shell with only a basic kitchen fitted and half the floor missing. I had the BSS renewed before taking delivery.
There was also lots of bare metal in the entrance. It now has 2 X solar panels fitted, with 3 X deep cycle leisure batteries and 2 X digital controllers. There are several sets of 12V led lights fitted on dimmer switches. It has an awesome log burner fitted with back boiler fitted BUT not connected to anything. My intention was to keep the boat open plan, light and airy so no walls have yet been fitted.
The front has been changed by the previous owner so it flat fronted but this could always be reversed depending on your skills/budget. It has an external 240v 3pin blue hook up fitted to the rear which leads to a fuse box. Beyond the fuse box there is nothing fitted in terms of wiring as I used 240 shore power to an extension lead. The rear deck measures approx. 6ft wide by 6ft long and has gates fitted both sides.
I must admit I have loved every minute of owning and living on board and am gutted to see it go. Had some brilliant times on the rear deck over summer enjoying a beer or 2 and some food. One very big plus point on this as a liveaboard is the cost of the CRT River licence, as it's unpowered it's at 50% discount on the normal 60ft rate, as we had it on the river only it was discounted 50% again which meant about £300 per year !!! We had to buy a smaller boat to act as a butty to get the second discount but it was well worth it. To finish off it requires a water system fitting, gas for cooker if required, 240v electrics fitting out and then whatever else you wish to do in terms of walls, bathroom etc etc.
I have a friend with a professional haulage firm with an extending trailer who moved it from Hebden bridge to Lincoln for £500 to give an example of cost. I also have a crane who can lift it out at this end for £500. You can of course arrange your own transport BUT I may be willing to help out with the cost depending on your offer. Viewing is highly recommended, it is located about 4 miles outside Lincoln. Please call phone to arrange a viewing.
