With their ocean going pedigree & a production run of 3450, Vegas are to be found all over the world & have many exceptional voyages to their credit, notably numerous circumnavigations & a record crossing of the Atlantic by Albin Vega “Little My III” from Cape Verdes to Barbados in 14 days 16 hours. More recently Matt Rutherford sailed his Vega single handed, non-stop solo around the Americas including east to west through the Northwest Passage.
The Vega also features in John Vigor’s “Twenty Small Sailboats To Take You Anywhere”. There’s a very strong owner’s association here in the UK, their website has reviews, technical info, spares, etc. Search Google &/or Youtube for “albin vega” & you’ll find a wealth of information about these boats. 2 x mast winches (o/e) Twin adjustable backstays. Spinnaker pole. Rod kicker.Engine: Beta BZ482 diesel twin cylinder 13.5hp, engine no. 3E6959. Fitted over winter 2003/4, the engine is regularly serviced, is utterly reliable & very economical, burning approx. 1 litre per hour at 5 knots.
Last service (oil & filter changed & usual checks – gearbox oil, air filter, etc.) July 2017. There are a few engine spares on the boat, including an impellor. Oil changes are easy – the engine has a sump drain plug so there’s no need for an oil extractor pump. Electrics: 2 x solar panels (40w & 20w), each with own PWM regulator. Part rewired 2012 with 2 new switch panels, auto bilge pump switch (switch itself is wired but needs bilge pump & float switch fitting/wiring) & 12v socket.

Woodwork in very good condition for age, all revarnished with Epifanes varnish in 2011 Saloon: Two full length, full width settees/single berths, both with lee cloths (excellent sea berths). Storage under & behind & shelves over – these are very comfortable for sitting/lounging/sleeping & are in my opinion a major plus on the Vega being larger & more comfortable than the saloon seating found on many larger yachts.
Headroom in the saloon is 5’8″. Sink with filtered, foot pumped water & storage under, food storage locker & cupboards aft to starboard. Gas Cooker (Plastimo Neptune 2000, with 2 hobs & grill) with storage under & cupboards aft to port. Removable companionway steps to facilitate engine access. Saloon insulated with carpet in storage areas behind seating & behind shelves, under side deck (including inside cupboards) insulated with self-adhesive closed cell foam. Most of the saloon cabin top is of sandwich construction & doesn’t need insulation. Lovely finish to the headlinings in smooth gelcoat – no sagging foam backed vinyl. Full set of waterproof cockpit cushions in very good condition. Large compartmentalised cockpit lockers port & starboard. In here are stored all the spare sails, cockpit cushions, double gas cylinder box (drains over port side), battery box containing the 2x110ah batteries, two 10l jerry cans for spare fuel, dinghy oars & more. Standard Horizon GX1100E VHF DSC radio linked to chartplotter.
Simrad TP22 tillerpilot, NASA depth sounder. NASA log/speed NNASA wind speed & direction – again not used, it was unreliable so I removed the masthead unit & replaced it with a Windex. The display unit is still fitted so could be resurrected with a new masthead unit. Hull & DeckBuild: Aft cockpit, shallow long fin keel sloop.
