1996 Bayliner 2858 – Absolutely stunning – has everything and ready for season For Auction is my 1996 Bayliner 2858 Ciera Flybridge Boat I have owned this boat for over 11 years and to be honest had no intention of selling her, but due to being made redundant last September I have now just started a new job that will see most of my time spent outside of the country. Having only visited the boat 4 times last year it is now even more unlikely that I will get to use her at all this year. So seems crazy to pay the mooring fees and not use her, so will pass her on for someone else to enjoy. The Reserve is low as I would like to give someone the chance to either get into boating or upgrade from their smaller boat to this one and start using her as we use to. She is so much fun and to be honest in the last couple of years we have no doubt only put 8 hours of use in!
I imported this boat in 2006 as an upgrade to my Fletcher sports cuddy. The boat has had no expense spared and had alot of upgrades in the last couple of years as I hadn’t planned to sell her, so you are going to get an outstanding boat who ever wins this. I also expect that anyone looking a buying a boat will want to know as much detail as possible so I make no apology for the long description below. I will try and cover everything but you are also more than welcome to visit to view or give me a call. The boat is moored in Brighton, but I am not local (a good +2 hour drive), so plan to be down on the boat this weekend the 4th and 5th February.
If you are serious I can also drive down if required for you to view, but just a reminder, it’s not a case of emailing me during the day to say you visit that evening, I need some notice to get down there and this is dependant on my work. The boat is 28.5ft long, although with the swim platform it brings the boat to near 32ft (9.6m). It has a great sounding 7.4L V8 Mercruiser engine and brand new Mercruiser Bravo 2 outdrive. Sleeps 6 people (inside), but can sleep another 4 under the canopy (like being in a tent). It is CE tested and plated (so not a grey import), and has full UK VAT paid status on it (have all the documentation you need if you want to cruise abroad).
When this arrived in the UK I spent 18 months converting her to my requirements. I re-did the seats inside with a beige leather material to brighten her up. For those that know these boats you will know the seat covers are a dark mess of colours and the worktops are dark grey. So I also lightened the worktops to a beige and had brand new deep pile beige carpets fitted throughout, so I have never allowed shoes to be worn inside. I left the bedding areas in the original colours, but all of these were removed and professionally cleaned.
Therefore the interior is in very nice condition. The boat came with no canopies so I had the rear and top canopies custom made and this was like adding a conservatory to a house, it gives you a useable and dry space outside all year round. As the clear plastic canopy windows on boats after a time start to go dull, I had all of these removed and replaced last year, so if you are as fussy as me then these will not need doing for another 8 years! It also has a metal frame over the flybridge that has a top cover that zips on to it for shade in the summer. I decided to leave the 110v system and plugs that came as standard with the boat onboard as this allowed for greater choice if I decided to cruise abroad, so I therefore wired in parallel the 240v UK system.
I changed all the lights to LED ones and added Blue Mood lighting for when we watched films and these are all controlled by remote control. To watch a film you need a TV and I fitted 2 TVs and DVD players, one to the dining area and one to the main bed area. There is also a satellite freetop box that did connect into a dish, but I have since upgraded to an internal aerial so you can watch your BBC’s or Dave while eating. I also fitted a new microwave oven and full size electric under counter fridge with wine rack next to it. There is also an electric Pizza oven and kettle and the option to re-fit the hob that I removed.
To be honest we have only done lunches or had take aways on the boat and have never cooked on the boat for dinner as there are so many restaurants within the mariner and when we visit the boat we see this as a mini holiday so who cooks when on holiday J There is also the onboard stereo (like a car radio). Inside there is a main bed area to the front, the dining area / table also folds down to sleep 2 and underneath this there is also a 2 berth bed. There is a place to steer the boat inside and a kitchen area. The toilet / shower area has never been used since I have had the boat and I use it to store stools which can provide additional seating at night. The storage inside is out of this world, there is so much of it from under the bed, seats, counter and also behind the seats that everything will have a home.
On the back I have also got 4 folding wooden chairs and a table which is a great area to sit out on for lunch. There is no carpet on the back currently but this could be replaced if needed. The engine is a 7.4L V8 Mercruiser and has 2 new up-rated batteries fitted as well as 2 C-TEK trickle chargers so you are always ready to go. In 2015 my son decides he is getting to the age where he wants to go knee-boarding or towed in an inflatable donut so I had the boat lifted out and the engine fully serviced to top spec at a cost of £2000 and then was advised that the outdrive could do with replacing to give it some more speed so had a new Mercruiser Bravo 2 outdrive installed at a cost of over £8000. Again I wasn’t planning on selling the boat back in 2015 so for me, it was all a worthy investment, but for the new owner, a boat that is like new!
On the swim platform I imported an attachment to store and launch a tender. The tender in the pictures are a friend’s that I borrowed to show how it works. If needed you can buy a tender quite cheap, but if you don’t want one, these brackets un-clip and store in the boat leaving the swim platform un-obstructed. The boat comes with fenders and fender holders on the front rails, with an anchor fitted as well. There are screens around the windows for privacy which can be removed and curtains inside.
There is also a small fan heater to ensure winter time is fun too, we have spent Christmas down here before. All details and costs above can be verified by paperwork and receipts which will be provided. Bad Points, well not such bad points, but things that I would have done this year: 1) 1) Top canopy is dirty from the winter and I would clean and re-waterproof. It also needs the centre holder re-stitched but does work as it is. You can get this done in the marina.
2) 2) One side the fender has rubbed off part of the blue sticker (see pic on dropbox), I would replace this if I had kept the boat. Original Bayliner side trim decals can be bought on classifieds board, various colours so you could change this to your favourite colour. 3) 3) Compass on flybridge has lost some liquid, so although I do not use it, I would replace to make it look good. 4) Although I cleaned it before Christmas, the weather was not good so needs a proper clean when sunny to make it shine. Again comes with boxes of cleaning kit.
I have taken so many pictures to show how good the boat is and taken shots with the beds made and unmade, lights on and off and outside. As classifieds board only allow 12 photos I have put a further 114 photos on dropbox: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/bj8z9scjab8d4hx/AAAalR9fMxvWbFMedFKGerV3a? Dl=0 It is berthed in Brighton and this berth should be available if you wish to keep the boat down there at around £330 a month payable to the mariner. If not, buyer is responsible for transport costs and lift out costs. I have the number of the company that transported it from Southampton to Brighton when it first arrived in the country if that will help you.
Back then it cost £250 for that journey. Thank you for looking and reading, please contact me if you have a question or want to view the boat. I will be more than welcome to help.On 02-Feb-17 at 17:52:23 GMT, seller added the following information: Some answers to cover the many questions: - Insurance costs are around £320 per year for fully covered including inflatable towing, the cost will reduce if you do not plan to tow toys behind it.- No I am not interested in swapping or taken part payment in a car or smaller boat (if I had time to use a boat I would use this one).- It is a great marina, I have been there for over 16 years and have seen lots of improvements in security, facilities, restaurants and shops. It should not be an issue if you wanted to moor the boat there.- There are lots of boat yard facilities there and there are companies that (for a fee), will clean your boat once a month and start her up and service her if you want them to.- As stated in the details above, it is a single engine, stern drive. There is no bow thruster, but I have never had any issue mooring and maneuvering her with out one.- Canopies can, individually come off, partly come off or you can remove completely, depends on weather and how you feel.- The boat has about 145 hours use in total, which for a huge 7.4L V8 is not even run in yet!
Many thanks to everyone who has contacted me, will see some of you at the weekend. On 07-Feb-17 at 23:35:07 GMT, seller added the following information: *********************************************************************************************************************************************************************** Due to work commitments changing today, I will now be back down at the boat this Friday 10th Feb from 7pm until Sunday 12th Feb at 12:30pm if anyone else wants come and view her.
