Historic Lister HR4W engine. Recently repainted and ready to move into.With deep regret we are selling our lovely 'Berengaria', 70ft liveaboard narrowboat. Built in 1996 by Orion Boats, she was refitted in 2012 to a very high standard and recently repainted. She offers accommodation for a small family/couple and is kitted out for off-grid living, with large storage areas, solar panels and a river water filtration system.Viewing highly recommended!

She cruises at 1000rpm and starts first time, whatever the weather! I was told by the guys at P&S Marine, Croxley Green, that the engine is worth £15000 on it's own! I've never experienced any issues with it apart from needing a new starter motor. Insulation: 70mm Kingspan from baseplate to gunnels, seams taped against condensation and 1" Jablite on roof and topsides.Design: The bow is in a barge style with a very large hold which can store upto 20 25kg bags of coal! Also on the foredeck are gas lockers, currently fitted for two 13kg bottles but with space for four. The cratch area is large enough for two to three bikes, or anything else you need to carry with you! It also houses a river water filtration setup (more explanation on request). The interior is fitted out in 9mm ply and trimmed with stop-routed 70mm battens.
The flooring is 18mm solid oak (thoughout the boat) and decorated in a tasteful a Georgian style. All paints are Farrow & Ball colours and the woodwork and fitting are of a high standard. Heating is provided by an Evergreen Poplar stove and back boiler which runs three radiators. Electrical sockets run around the length of the boat on both sides and power is provided by a Victron 1600/50 inverter/charger, 4 x 125w solar panels + Tracer MPPT controller and a Hatz 1900w 24v DC diesel generator. Batteries are 8 x Trojan T105s, fitted late 2014 at a cost of nearly £1000 and never allowed to drop below 50% charge.
AccommodationThe saloon is approx 4m in length and has a 19th century French drop-leaf daybed, providing a single bed for visitors, stove, side table, sideboard & 24" TV etc.Beyond is a fully fitted galley kitchen with solid oak work surfaces, fridge, full size twin oven/grill cooker , porcelain 1 + 1/4 sink and drainer. The units provide plenty of storage space for foods, pans, crockery etc. Hot water is provided via a Morco D61e instantaneous gas heater which also gives a lovely shower! Along the companionway we have a compact yet very workable shower room, fitted with a composting toilet, hand basin, storage and full size thermostatically controlled shower. The Shower cubicle and room are tiled in Travertine sandstone.Next along is our Son's bedroom with 2.5ft x 6ft single bed, large Victorian pine chest of drawers, handmade desk and antique chair ,shelving etc.
There's also a 19" TV and holder for a PS3. Note the 'secret' cupboard with the triangular door above the bed head.......Through the door is the master cabin, full size double bed with drawer and storage space beneath. A large antique mahogany chest of drawers and a smaller oak set opposite. There are two 9" portholes and a door onto the 'utility' room & engine rooms.Both Cabins, Companionway, kitchen and utility room have large 'escape' hatches.LED lighting is fitted throughout. As you can see alot of love has gone into Berengaria.
We've had many happy times in her but have had to move ashore after starting up in the catering industry and needing more space for fridges and freezers!! EquipmentBeyond the Master Cabin is a utility room fitted with a Candy automatic washing machine, it's a tight fit through to the engine room where the generator/batteries etc are accessed. Access is also through the rear engine/control room doors.The Diesel 24v DC generator will charge the 24v battery bank at upto 50 amps per hour (100amh @ 12v equivalent), it starts and runs easily and with the engine doors closed and extractor on it's quiet, however it requires 'technique' as it's a hand crank start. Diesel is taken from the main fuel tank. Personally I prefer diesel as a generator fuel so as not to have the worry of petrol inside the boat.
However if you'd find starting this generator a problem the Victron Inverter/Charger will operate very well with a 2k suitcase type generator...... Safety EquipmentBerengaria has plenty of fire fighting equipment which has recently been certified. Also there are a number of smoke alarms and a CO detector. Her BSS runs out next February but she will be sold with a new certificate and will not need testing again for the full four years.
