Country/Region of Manufacture: United Kingdom
Nepenthe is a beautiful replica Dutch barge that is currently moored at the Lazy Otter pub/restaurant house on the A10 between Ely and Cambridge. She is not registered as a seagoing boat although she has been across the Wash and could be taken to other areas of the UK by water and indeed onto the French inland waterway network. Her UK cruising area is limited to the River Cam and River Great Ouse below St Ives. She has a “liveaboard” mooring, paid up to the end of December 2017 and is renewable if required. With her large airy living space she would certainly make a good permanent home.
Most of the furniture, washing machine/tumble drier etc is included in the sale price. The boat handles well, and the engine has plenty of power and always starts first time. The alternator does not work but that is only an issue for those that wish to take the boat long distance. I fitted a heat exchanger last year so that the engine now heats the domestic hot water tank (calorifier) – a useful addition when away from the landline and when it is too warm to have the central heating on. The boat was a project when I bought her three years ago.
Subsequently the boat has been fitted with a calorifier, a bathroom with shower, a kitchen, and a central heating system based on a Squirrel stove. I have insulated the roof. There are still improvements to be made e.g. Sound proofing of the wheelhouse floor but the boat is comfortable and fully functioning. Regarding the sale price, I am open to sensible offers: I would like to get back what I paid for Nepenthe plus the value of the equipment/materials subsequently bought.
Nepenthe is a lovely looking vessel and will make a good home for someone. I am sure she would also meet the challenge of long distance cruising. I can arrange a viewing at short notice. Please feel free to phone or text me on phone. Specification57ft X 12ft coaster style Dutch motor barge built by Methley Bridge Boatyard in 2010.
