Broom 34 Ocean . Ideal Sea Or River Cruiser

We have decided to sell our much loved Broom Ocean 34. "Sea Opal" I believe her to be the only 34 with a command bridge to be fitted with a 200hp Volvo Penta Engine which gives her a Wide Open Throttle speed around 13 knots and a happy cruising speed of 10.5/11 Knots. This is sufficient to plane (although not on the River Severn !) She was built to be exported to Germany where the river currents are a little less predictable than here so the extra power was a wise precaution. I believe three of her sisters had twin 125 hp Volvos whilst the remainder were all fitted with a single Perkins 135 hp limiting WOT speed to around 8 Knots. In the five years we have owned her we have cruised from the River Severn to Cardiff, Swansea, Bristol and Padstow.

During this time she has proved to be a good sea boat and anchoring off the Devon coast has been a straightforward exercise with the power winch. During our ownership we have replaced all batteries, their charger, the refrigerator, CD Radio curtains, black cockpit covers, VHF, Nav system (The old one would only work in German !) , Oven and Hob, Carpets (a full spare set is included) A sea toilet, the shower and a host of other things - Like you do ! Interesting things fitted include two toilets (one electric flush and one manual) which can discharge into the sea or a holding tank with an associated hand pump which can be used to discharge the holding tank whilst at sea.
