40ft Cruiser stern all steel canal boat £5500 River Rat is a quirky 40ft steel hulled canal boat of great character which has recently been used as a live-aboard, but which now needs some refurbishment. Once improved the boat could easily provide a comfortable floating home or leisure cruiser at a very reasonable cost. The boat is powered by a robust permanently-mounted Ruggerini diesel outboard motor located under the spacious 6ft rear deck, which also provides an unusual wheel-steering mechanism. A sliding hatch provides access into the boat from the rear deck, with wiring and controls for the12v and 230v electrics housed in a small dedicated cupboard on the right hand side. The rear cabin is approximately 7ft long, with a long bench seat that could easily convert to a single berth, with a bank of storage drawers opposite.
The galley area contains a set of kitchen units with stainless sink and drainer, hot and cold taps over, and a free-standing full size Caprice lpg gas cooker with 4 rings, separate grill and good size oven. Opposite the galley is the shower room and wc, containing wash basin, shower area, and Thetford cassette toilet with spare cassette included. The forward lounge/bedroom (10ft 6ins approx) provides a light and airy space with large double bed, tv shelf and a wood-burning stove. Double doors open onto a short foredeck. An alcove in the main cabin provides an as new "Faster" lpg water heater (not commissioned); opposite this is a small cupboard containing Par 12v water pump.
Water pipes are modern push-fit plastic, and the cold system is fully functional, while the hot water side requires re-commissioning. The water tank, located under the foredeck is of grp construction. The boat would certainly benefit from a complete interior refurbishment, but it has been lived on until quite recently and given that the basics are in place it could be turned around very quickly. At present on hard-standing near Oswestry, Shropshire. The boat is realistically priced at £5500 for a quick sale, and needs to be viewed to be fully appreciated.
Sold as seen – buyer to remove or pay continuing hard-stand fee (approximately £125 per month). Full boatyard facilities available including boat- lift. There is the possibility of a mooring on the adjacent Montgomery Canal with electric hook-up and water available.
