Catalina 22 Trailer Sailor 1992MY. Currently ashore for the Winter in the Portsmouth Area. I believe it was imported new from the USA in 1992. It is the Swing keel variant giving a draft of 0.5m when its fully up making it possible to explore shallow creeks and estuaries. It is equally at home on lakes, estuaries or coastal cruising.
The great advantage is, with a suitable vehicle, it can be towed to wherever you wish to sail her. The Catalina weighs 1129Kg plus the trailer . The Catalina has a roller reefing Genoa which had a new UV strip in 2021 and the original battened Main sail with a "Pack a Main" sail bag and lazy jack system both sails in good condition. The Pack a Main bag although serviceable would benefit from some remedial stitching. It spent many years sailing on Rutland water but the last 3 seasons its been sailing on and around the Solent including a few overnight trips to the Isle of Wight.
I have owned the Catalina for 12 yrs and having recently moved to the South coast would like to sail further afield so I have decided to get a larger boat. The Catalina is now out of the water. Viewing can be arranged or I can provide more photos if required. It has the essential optional extra "Pop Top" giving nearly 6ft headroom in the cabin and has the Pop Top curtain to keep the weather and Mosquito's out when moored up (photo 9) It needs a few more poppers around the companionway to fix it fully. The Pop Top Curtain is designed to fit with the raised spray hood.
The Catalina also comes with a Spray Hood with extension enclosure to provide extra space when moored, Dodgers (with the the boats name on) and full length cockpit cushions all blue and in very good condition. The galvanised braked trailer is bespoke to the Catalina and came with the boat. The axle and brakes, wheels and tyres (including spare) and towing hitch were replaced a few years ago and have covered less than 500 miles that said it would be a good idea to adjust the brakes before towing it away. The Catalina comes with everything to sail away including. Bow and Stern Warps -Blue 6 Fenders -Blue Horseshoe buoy -Baltic Marinepool -rescue harness Davis tiller tamer Lewmar winches Bulkhead compass B&G Focus Log and Depth Clipper wind Danforth anchor 5m chain 22m rope at bow Danforth anchor at the stern Radar reflector Windex on top of the mast Handheld Cobra VHF radio Origo 3000 2 x spirit burner (photo 12) Fire extinguisher and Fire blanket Portable Chemical Loo ... original and never used Cabin cushions and infills to make up the beds Large Colman coolbox Yamaha 6hp 4 stroke outboard 3 years old which has been serviced every year.
External 3 gallon petrol container and connection pipes for the outboard. Unfortunately the Clipper Wind has developed an intermittent fault and the speedo on the log has stopped working. The depth display works fine though. The Navigation lights on the bow and stern work fine as do the internal cabin electrics including the USB ports. The Navigation lights on the mast, although recently replaced, have stopped working.
The Catalina 22 is by far the most popular trailer sailor in the USA with over 15000 having been built . Spares are easily obtained from Catalina Direct USA. More information on the Catalina 22 can be found online.
