An original Bill Bailiff Lune Whammel No 48. Gaff rig with two head sails. 17' long with wooden mast, gaff and boom, GRP hull. Long keel, shallow draft but very stable and a perfect family boat. She will easily take a family of four and possibly six people if you are out in settled conditions.
She is ready to sail. She was restored 3 years ago by me, with a new bulkhead, repaired seats, new thwart, varnished and repainted internally. A new mast-up cover was purchased from Sailblades of Kendal at the start of the 2016 season . She comes with an unbraked road trailer, refurbished with new tyres, bearings and suspension units three years ago and has done no more than 250 miles since then. There is a spare (new) trailer wheel and tyre as well as a lighting board and cable extension.
The boat comes with a full set of running rigging, new stainless steel standing rigging, grapnel anchor and two oars. Some points to note: The image of the boat with the mast and sails up sitting on the trailer is pre-restoration. This boat is 20 years old so the original gel coat is bloomed (see pics for detail) but might polish out with effort. The hull has various dings and dents from her life so far. The refreshed interior paintwork is in need of a touch up in some areas.
The gaff jaws have an old repair which will eventually need replacing, but it has lasted for at least three seasons for me without a problem. I used as much of the original woodwork as I could in refurbishing her so there is not much new wood. She is a working sailing craft, not a museum piece. She was brought back to life and then has been sailed regularly on Ullswater in the Lake District and kept in dry storage over the winter. There is a lot of information about the Whammel online, a good place to start would be here http://www.characterboats.co.uk/lune-whammel-no-1/ Viewing is strongly recommended, I can be contacted via classifieds board messaging and am located in north east Cumbria.
Reason for sale - just not enough time to sail! If you have any questions I will try and answer them.
