Welcome to my sale for a very special USA built, Donzi Hornet 19. - Please take time to read the full description to apreciate how special this boat is:- A very original 1968 boat with the original Holman Moody (Ford Mustang) 351W engine, Volvo Stern drive and left hand helm position. The boat, confirmed by the Donzi Restoration Society is Hull number 19H-37. Only about 90 Hornet 19’s were made, and this boat was the very first with 2+3 seating. Laid down in 1968 and consigned in 1970.
She has only two previous owners and prior to arriving in the UK has always been used on Bear Lake (freshwater), Virginia USA, I have a short Video of her last run. https://www.youtube.com/watch? V=kD8wCPeITEkhttps://www.youtube.com/watch? V=yp_7N-dcJ9IThe Hornet was conceived and built on “Thunderboat Row” in Miami, and was one of the “Original 3” in Donzi Marine’s model line-up when Don Aronow, Jim Wynne, and Walt Walters began building Donzi’s back in the mid 60’s. At the time, she was described as a “Gentleman’s Racer” – “A Spectacular Rough Water Boat” and a “Modern Classic” Hornet’s competed many ocean races, like the Miami - Key West , often finishing ahead of larger twin engine boats. My Hornet has all new (same as original) Donzi upholstery (>$4000) and since arriving in the UK has been mechanically upgraded to meet modern safety standards by myself (a retired senior marine engineer).
I have a very thick file of the boat’s history and details of all of the work done and have spent over £4000 on parts during the past 18months. Just some of the items – New exhausts and risers, New 316 stainless exhaust tips, New Bennett Trim tabs, All new Instruments (like original), New twin battery system with splitting diodes, for safety, - the Fuel and Battery Isolators are relocated with cockpit access, a complete rewire with circuit breakers, New stainless steel deck hardware, Two Rule automatic bilge pumps, New Vetus engine blower, A new 110mm High Speed compass, plus Much! Much! More.............. You will see all of the equipment is high quality; I refuse to use any cheap eastern imports. The boat sits on a nice Eagle hydraulic braked trailer with new tyres, a spare wheel, new and spare wheel bearings plus a new LED lighting board, she comes with a new tonneau cover, an older overall cover and a heavy winter cover and frame.
The fuel tank is good and clean with a new sender unit and gauge. The engine and drive have received a full service - new oil filter, plugs, leads, Holley carb overhaul, new fuel pump, impeller, belt and a new duel fuel filter system, new gear oil, anode and bellows. The engine bay has a new auto fire extinguisher plus two new extinguishers in the cockpit. Although called the “Hornet19” she is in fact, 20’ 6.1/2” overall and 7’ 10.½” beam There is so much to say about this boat – and more pictures are available on request, I would love to keep it, but as the years creep on, I am looking for a boat more suitable for the River. I will not be looking at any silly offers, she is seriously for sale, and I have been around power boats and the marine industry for over 50 years and know this is a very special, “one off” boat at a realistic price.
