We have been using this beautiful boat as a pied-a-terre for the last few years and are selling it fully set up as we are moving abroad. Unfortunately the existing mooring is not available – this boat must be moved. One of the last remaining Graham Bunn Norfolk Broads Windboats of her size - Southwind (B249) is a unique and beautifully designed river cruiser. She is all mahogany (varnished to waterline), and a centre cockpit with folding canopy and wind shield. She is 32ft in length and 9ft beam.
The inside is largely original, sleeping four with double bed in the aft cabin and twin berths in the saloon.Length 32 ft beam 9ft 6 in water draft approx 30 inches She is 70 this year, built by Windboats, the luxury yacht builders who are still operating from Wroxham. For a brief history of Windboats (where Southwind is mentioned) see this link: http://www.windboats.co.uk/history/ She was named Cassandra, but recently changed back to her original name of Southwind. See this Broads website for brief history of ownership http://www.broads.org.uk/wiki/index.php5? Title=Boat_Details&BoatId=2454&BoatHistory=3097 The hull was restored in 2014 by Classic Boat Restoration Services. To protect her we commissioned an all-over cover that goes to the waterline, this was completed in 2015 and is beige with windows (with flaps), zipped in three parts, now well used.
She is powered by a Beta 35hp diesel inboard engine, which is in good working order. This was new in 2005 and since its installation it has had light use, and is currently in full working order. Also in 2005 a new calorifier with water heated by the engine (and which can be fitted with optional shore-powered heater), plastic fuel tank, plastic holding tank, gas locker and Jabsco manual toilet are fitted. Collection from Windsor, Berkshire. Preferred payment by direct bank transfer, bank cheque or order.
She is in need of some cosmetic work internally to finish her off. The saloon and kitchen are serviceable. The galley comprises of a stainless steel basin at present, galley cupboards and worktop and a suitable stove can to be fitted (gas piping is already in place). Accommodation info: Step into the centre cockpit, then through double doors three steps down into the saloon with head height well over my 5’ 9”, single bunk on each side with draw storage below and cupboard space at the forward end of each bunk. On each side there is a removable back rest that turns the bunks into bench seats.
Through double doors towards the bow, there is a stainless steel basin on the starboard side and space for a cooker on the port side, with a small three-way fridge – has been seen working on gas/12 volt but currently is only on shore power. The former utility room at the bow is now empty and ready for restoration (with the original cupboard mahogany doors and some supporting frame timbers are included, or fit some modern alternative). Forward of a bulkhead in the bow there is a water tank and storage space below (usually enough clean water storage for a week for two people). From the cockpit enter the aft cabin down two steps (again with good head height), on the port side there is a wet room with Jabsco manual toilet (usually enough for toilet waste storage for a week for two people) and a wash basin and floor drainage to bilge pump-out for the included, hand-held, USB-chargable portable shower. On the starboard side of the cabin is a wardrobe.
The cabin has had some bench bunks removed by previous owner, which allowed us to install a full sized double bed and small desk area, with easy access to under-bed storage and the rear steering cables and rudder. There is no built-in heating, but the sale includes an oil heater (usually in the aft cabin) and a fan heater for when needed in the forward cabin, powered by shore power. Shore power has been installed with a dual circuit RCD (Residual Current Device) electrical safety switch, long lead to shore power switch and three double power points with USB sockets, and the boat includes an additional spare shore power cable to 4-way electrical power board.
