1959 Watson Class Lifeboat Houseboat Conversion, Surrey Quays, London.
Description:
Converted former RNLI Lifeboat, ‘Alfred & Patience Gottwald’ is a 42ft Watson Class, with 13ft beam. She was built in 1959 and served as the Aldeburgh lifeboat until 1980. In Belgium for much of the time since then, she was stripped of her instruments and engine. Over the past few years we have renovated ‘Alfie’ into a houseboat and moved her to London, where she sits on her mooring at South Dock Marina SE16 (zone 2). She’s been a lovely home but we are now making a substantial move and we can’t take her with us, more’s the pity.Alfie comes with a mooring at the marina with permitted full time liveaboard use, with the ease of mains electricity hookup (32 amp), water supply, fibre optic broadband, use of shower and laundry facilities on site. Regular pump-out and fuel services for those that need it. Both Surrey Quays and Canada Water stations are within walking distance, along with the local Clipper Service. Surrounding the marina are some nice cafes and pubs, a couple of supermarkets, and the Thames Path down to Greenwich. Southwark and Stave Hill Ecological Park are good places for walks too.Decent parking options (for London at least!). Mooring fees currently £628 per month, though discounts apply if paying annually for example. The boat was constructed using double diagonal Mahogany on Oak beamed hull, with aluminium and fibreglass superstructure. Built to be launched off pebble beaches she is extraordinarily strong. Inside, the bedroom is in the bow, the living room amidships, with the kitchen (or ‘galley’) and wc towards the stern.Outside, there is deck space on the bow with room for a BBQ and friends (or plants, your choice). At the rear of the boat there is storage space below deck that we currently use for all manner of things like camping gear, paint and spares. We are selling the boat along with a half-shipping container situated in the boatyard. This container has been worth its weight in gold for all the extra storage it provides. Alfie was last out of the water in summer 2019, we had a survey at that point which told us the hull was in good shape, and any recommendations were carried out.Copy available upon request. More details of the boat below, note that the plan supplied is indicative of layout only and is not to scale! If you have any questions feel free to get in touch or call.
