My beautiful boat is up for sale. I'm very sad to see it go. She is 1974, fiberglass, and her name is Dory. I bought the boat for £2000 and spent over £3000 on it in the time I had it. I spent countless hours working on this boat and it was worth every minute!
I lived aboard for 14 months and I also worked on the canal doing repair and maintenance work to other boats. I know a LOT about these boats, their honest potential, and also reasons why this may not be the ideal boat for you! One thing i must say about dory is that out of all the Dawncraft Dandys i know she is definitely the strongest! The fiberglass is nice and thick so the boats shape hasnt changed at all. I'm hoping to see her go to somebody who's either keen for a new project or is already part of the boat world.
She was once completed but sadly thieves targeted the boat and stole my brand new kitchen! Since this happened I have been too busy to fix her back up. But during the time I lived on the boat some of the main work I did was:Full repaint October 2017All Windows taken out and resealedNew windscreen (top and front)New steering cable and helm. All interior removed and walls sanded.Aluminium insulation all round the inside (but one piece fell from the roof this very hot summer). Most of the inside is carpeted as well. I put a new bed foam piece in and created pieces to make a large double as shown. The boat has all of the correct ventilation for the gas appliances that were in the kitchen. It has a solar fan which was £230 they're great for condensation. It can come with 2 scaffolding planks as well for access to the boat from the bank.
The engine is a Tohatsu 8HP. It has taken me up and down the canal countless times and has always been reliable for me. Again I am very very sad to see the boat go and if I could choose I would go straight back to living aboard.Any questions feel free to ask, happy to have a realistic conversation if you have any ideas you'd like to know if they would be achievable. phone Ed.
