Fairey Atalanta 26 -SaiL NUMBER 049 DATED 1960A superb opportunity to buy a classic yacht. Listed pictures of the yacht taken 2 years ago. ADDITIONAL EXTERNAL AND INTERNAL PICTURES TO BE ADDED THIS WEEKEND There is plenty of info on the web for information on this hot moulded plywood yacht. Useful site is the Atalanta Owner Organisation at www.atalantaowners.org I recently bought the boat and is laid up in a boatyard in Northwich Cheshire. The fees are nominal for storage and so can stay there for a while. It was intended and still is to give the boat a great paint job, replace the rubbing strakes and toe rails and have a mint boat. The internal painting good also be better so I will sort it.Buy a battery and leads and and get the engine going.
So I will continue with this plan.A chap in the yard says he can help with the small wooden repair needed at the topsides. Unless the boat is sold I will continue with the project so no real urgency to offload.Hence classified ad as opposed to auction ad. I will not accept offers separately for the engine ,mast keels etc I would like the boat to be restored if not by me someone elseI am open to reasonable offers In addition you will have to pay the £150 to use the boatyard crane/cradle to lift onto your trailer or flatbed etc. Swing keels and keelbox. A substantial amount of money +£1700 has been spent on the dropping of the dual swing keels and refurbishment of keel boxes including new keel boats.
Sails A set of sails- genoa and main- not in great condition but useable. Engine A Coventry Victor WN4 Twin cylinder petrol engine. I have a bill in 2012 for £1600 for a full strip down and service. The previous owner says that he ran the engine a couple of years ago when in the water. There is no battery nor sparkplug leads so I have not had the time to start it yet. The Topsides and decks Here is the issue. It seems that during transit or lifting at the pick up end the boat suffered slight damage. It seems that the cradle has detached about 1 foot length of rubbing strake and there is 3-4 inch crack in the bevelled deck/cockpit.Clearly the boat has had slight rot here over the years and this weak point suffered. In my opinion this internal frame and cockpit support would need replacing.
This could possibly steam bending a short piece of mahogany for the frame. The simple bit is to Agba veneer the outer after this. I have included an internal picture of the damage. Sundries. Fenders lifebelts and a suitcase full of bills, plans and Atalanta Owners manuals. The boat is in really good condition save for the description of the Topsides and Deck-below.The hull above and below the water line has no rot but reallyneeds a great paint job to bring it up to spec.I don’t think this means stripping the boat back down to the plywood veneer. The deck and cockpit do needs heavy sanding or taking back to the wood.
The port rubbing strake needs repairing and i have taken off ghastly stations that were there.I have kept them for re-fitting-they were hindering a proper boat cover. Internal paintwork and condition There are bits and bobs of flaking paint but not much. The upholstery/cushions is not too good but I have retained it for the vinyl patterns. Seatoilet I assume it works in the water-not tested. Tarps/lay up The boat is fully covered with one sheet and a heavy tarp-included.
It is not on a trailer but sleeps and props. Hull Below the water line the hull is in excellent condition without flaking or cracks to the paint work. There is an external flange missing to the toilet seacocks. By admission the previous owner admitted to a poor attempt at an antifoul.Like the rest of the boat requires painting. Transom Excellent condition.MastA perfect wooden mast with all the rigging etc and lights Rudder A whipstaff rudder system in full working order- a brand new alloy rudder I can try and answer your questions any reasonable time and the boat is available for viewing with reasonable notice at a boat yard in Northwich Cheshire.
