Fairey Faun Cabin Cruiser 16' Boat

Completely Original Rare Classic 1950’s Cabin Cruiser Fairey Faun 16’ Plywood Boat Background My wife and I bought this boat late last year as lock down project from a family who had seemingly owned the boat for pretty much its whole life. From what we could tell it was used in the Norfolk broads in the late 60’s and early 70’s. From then on it was housed in a barn until very recently when we bought it. It has not been touched over the winter as I have kept it covered under a temporary gazebo/mobile garage type of thing. Exterior The hull appears to be solid all round with only one area that would require work just below the gunwale (rail – see photo).

The roof rails and window panels will require work. We did put her in water to check. She took on water in one area only, near the front through one of the keel bolts. I am led to believe that this is common and easily fixable albeit would be best to remove the keel and replace all the bolts and re-tighten them accordingly to ensure a more complete fix. The frame of the boat appears to be in exceptional condition considering its age, where it has remained dry for years the wood and original paint appears to be as it was when it was manufactured.

As you can see there will be some work involved in replacing the gunnel and bow plywood boards/panels. It is amazing to see it still has the original fire extinguisher, along with the original switches and cable controls. The Steering mechanism appears to be working as it should. It obviously goes without saying that the entire boat would benefit from a complete fresh coat of paint or two… 😊 Interior The interior is completely original and, in my opinion, just needs sanding and re-varnishing. The internal floor and storage panels are in very good condition.

The original cushions are still in pretty good order with what appears to have the original fabric covering. Engine 15hp Evinrude 2-Stroke Original engine, looks fantastic and is in keeping with the period of the boat. However, I have not attempted to start it or look to see if it is able to start, I expect it could be ceased, but cannot confirm that. Either way I would think it would need significant expertise to get her running as the engine has been stood for so many years. Trailer The trailer is in good working condition, although it probably needs a good service and fresh paint.

I have replaced the original wheels and tyres with new ones. However, there are no electrics with the trailer so you would need to bring your own light board when towing it away. I have tried to be as honest with my description as possible and am happy to answer any questions. However, can I ask that you only ask or bid if you are genuinely interested in this type of a boat. It is a real classic and really needs to go to someone who has the time and patience to bring her back to her original best.
