My 1966 Firefly, sail number 3264, is thinking about the future, and maybe finding a new owner who can give the time and love such a wonderful piece of engineering deserves...life changes mean I can't. If you're an enthusiast and you want a pragmatic reason to own her, she comes with 6 or seven mainsails - even I can't quite count - including a couple Hydes that seem very nearly new, and a couple of less new jibs, a collection that would probably be worth more than the boat itself if sold separately. She is lying in Chichester, sound, and ready to sail, though I always intended to give her fresh coloured sheets for the sake of vanity and single-handed sailing - I get confused - and another coat of varnish for the coming season. If she doesn't find a new owner at this price, that's exactly what I'll do. She sits on a launching trolley in a fine waterside location at a sailing club on the harbour.
The cover is old but servicable and keep the rain out. You'll need your own road trailer to move her. I bought this boat last year because she is so beautiful, in and out of the water, and because I watched this video: https://youtu.be/X6hgRQuvg60 I'm almost a novice at dinghy sailing but we've had a great summer together and I am just too old and stiff to crouch love in my old Topper any longer! But, I am also a full time carer for a mum with Parkinson's dementia and I'm just not using the boat because of care responsibilities and because I live more than sixty miles away. I could move her, and will, but I want to give the option to buy before I do.
I've considered boat sharing, and moving her closer to home as I say, and keeping her dry for the winter, but realistically, am I the right person to own this boat? I'm not sure...even though it has been a love affair, albeit one-sided to date! I've kept the price low because I don't her to languish for the winter and I'd like this particular parting to be quick and clean. You'll need to pick her up in the next couple of weeks, and I will come down to meet you if you want to see her, but only to shake hands on the deal. Hull kickers, no thanks.
I have certificates and paperwork, and I also have various life jackets, xl sailing gear at an extra cost. Sad to see her go, but I have to do the right thing...
