Wandering Star is a Golden Hind variant known as a Seareach, designed by Maurice Griffiths and was professionally built of steel by D B Marine, Grays, Essex and professionally fitted out by Mitchell Marine, Canvey Island, Essex in 1983. She is almost identical to the better known Golden Hind 31 although there are some differences. The Golden Hind has a transom mounted rudder whereas the Seareach uses a skeg mounted rudder there are no bilge keel plates she has a long shallow draft keel and the forward cabin superstructure is lower, thus, unfortunately, less headroom in the forecabin than the Golden Hind. There are also other minor differences between the designs.There’s not much information on the Seareach class on the internet but there are several accounts of the Golden Hind’s performance and the well-deserved reputation for seaworthiness this design has. Wandering Star’s hull form is virtually identical to that of a Golden Hind, she is a true passage maker.
