Hardy Pilot 20 Motor Boat Cabin Cruiser 20 Foot Mercury 80HP 4 Stroke & Trailer

We have owned her for six years and when we bought her I undertook a program of significant refurbishment with no expense spared. Her engine was upgraded to a 80HP Mercury 4 Stroke EFI. All head linings were meticulously remade and upholstered in foam back marine grade PVC.

All hull side wall carpets were replaced with new, from brown to blue. The cabin carpet was renewed, again from brown to blue. All foam seating and upholstery was replaced within the cabin. All aft cushions were re-made with new foam and blue PVC upholstery. New head linings were fitted to the wheel house and incorporate very subtle LED lighting.

All bulk head teak faced plywood, including the cabin stable door, and the cooker folding cover were re-manufactured from new marine grade plywood then re-faced with teak. Shore power was installed with three 13 amp twin power sockets being available. All 12V DC electrics were replaced and ran from a dedicated bus bar system. The gas cooker was refurbished. Tiling was added to the kitchenette area.

A table infill was made for the engine well. A leisure battery was added along with a Merlin Smartgauge / Smart Bank Advanced Battery Maintenance Charging and Monitoring System. New electronics were added with a Garmin Colour GPS Map 750 with full UK mapping, a Garmin Echo 200 Sonar Fish Finder, a Standard Horizon Explorer DSC VHF Marine Radio and a Ritchie illuminated Magnetic Compass. Bennett Trim Tabs and the EIC100 LED Position indicator controller were fitted. New gas systems were installed and a 3 year boat safety certificate was later obtained.

New helm seating was added and the teak grab rails were either replaced or refurbished. A 240 volt fridge was added as was a 2000W 240V / 12V pure sign wave inverter. A new Porta Poti Qube 365 Loo was added along with a Samsung wall mounted 21" Smart LED TV. There are also two smoke alarms and a carbon monoxide alarm fitted. Peter is a great boat ready to go for most adventurers.

We've had good use of her, and she has been really very well looked after. We've operated her between Brighton and the Solent with two trips to cover the whole length of the Thames from London City Airport to Lechlade in Gloucestershire. She's a great boat, comfortably accommodating two adults but for short stays up to 4 adults for an overnighter. She can carry 6 adults no problem, yes its a bit of a squeeze but she really handles well. Top speed in good conditions is about 24 Knots and a cruising speed of around 18 knots.

So why are we selling her. Well, it's time for a bigger boat and I've now bought a 33 foot sport cruiser to advance our exploration further. We will be very sad to see her go and hopefully whoever buys her looks after her with similar enthusiasm and interest as we have. She comes with a twin axle braked trailer which was upgraded at the same time. It underwent a full service last season with new Stainless Steel Cables being added and all wheel bearings being replaced.

So what needs doing. Well very little really. I would have been doing the following items this year but with the new boat now in our possession, time is limited. The aft canopy is at the end of its life. Whilst it is still water proof and stops water coming in, it is wearing thin, hardening up and the elastic loops are, well, not really elastic anymore.

It will go through this season but consideration should be made to changing it for 2020. Two of the teak grab rails on the roof need sanding and re-varnishing. I did the other two last year. Anti fouling was done last season and I always push for two seasons with a jet wash in between. The jet wash is due and if taken out the water as part of the purchase then this should be done.

Engine and gearbox oil is due next year as would the anodes. The boat safety certificate has just expired so if you want to take her on the Thames etc she would need a new one. There shouldn't be a problem here as she passed last time. She is currently lying near Brighton in Sussex and there is the potential for being able to take on the berth we have if you should so wish. This would not be a condition of sale and subject to separate negotiation with the current marina operator.

Peter is ready to go, ready to enjoy and ready to explore. Below is a pretty full inventory, which is also indicative in the photos. We will be keeping a few personal effects, like the bedding and the coloured cushions but basically if its in the inventory then its in the sale. If your interested then please note though, I'm a busy man, We're not adverse to keeping her on for small river adventures etc so I'm not in a position to be messed about. Please don't go asking stupid questions where I've covered them in this description.

The price reflects what you are getting here, I'm not trying to re-coupe my investment and outlay (which far exceeds the asking price) but am seeking a fair price for what is a truly pretty special one off example of the very popular Hardy Pilot 20 Series of boats.
