I am relucantly selling "Waverney Grebe" - my classic Broads cruise. She was built by Hippersons boat yard in Beccles, and first registered on 11 February 1966 with Broads registration number R119. It is thought that these boats were originally part of the "Heron Class" - a popular 1960's hire boat. Length 9.14 metres, Beam 3.2 metres *** Please note that the first 6 pictures show the boat in previous ownership. **** (I acknowledge copyright to Craig Slawson for the first picture, and pictures 2-5 are also used with acknowldgement to their owner.) This classic Broads cruiser will, when completed, be a fine craft.
Similar boats have been valued at over £30,000. She is part of the Broads history, and so it would be very satisfying to know that she has been bought by someone who will finish the internal restoration and bring her back to her former glory. I purchased "Waverney Grebe" earlier this year with the intention of completing the internal refit which had been started by a previous owner, but unfortunately due to an unexpected family illness this is now not going to be possible for me. The engine has some parts missing, including the rocker cover, but it should be possible to replace these as it is believed to be the original Perkins 4.108 diesel engine for which parts are easily available, and second hand engines of this type are usually for sale at reasonable prices. It is not known whether the current engine will work once the missing parts are replaced.
The hull and upper sides, and cabin woodwork all appears to be in good condition, although needing cleaning and a bit weathered. The canopy is also is fairly good and usuable condition. Internally is a bit scruffy but functional - two single berths to the front cabin. Rear cabin has a double bed area (cushions missing), a toilet/shower room (no toilet or shower fitted), wood burning stove (working order), worktop and units to take sink and cooker but neither installed. The rear cabin was extended by sacrificing the original stern deck, so she has more cabin room than when originally built Please note - purchasers must make a deposit payment of £500 by Paypal or BACS within 24 hours of choosing "buy it now" or the auction end.
The boat is currently on a private mooring in Horning at £120 per month. I am unable to do any viewing on the boat until after Christmas.
