An amazing and unique opportunity to own and live aboard a boat in the picturesque Southdown Marina, Millbrook, with an immediate live aboard berth on the hard where the boat is currently in situ, once she is ready to go back in the water a floating birth will be available. Millbrook is a working boat yard with stunning rural views across the water, only 30mins from the centre of Plymouth, the perfect mix of countryside and convenience. The marina has a well maintained toilet and shower block, clothes washing facilities and a lovely little café. The NualDany Freda is a piece of maritime history from the famous Rampart Company of Southampton, the last ever Rampart 48 built in 1981 by the Desty family and used as their family boat before entering the market. A twin screw 48 foot, Iroko on Iroko Carvel hull, the whole boat is copper rove riveted nailed, the Rampart company was famous for its over engineering of the hull design to ensure robustness and longevity of their crafts.
The current paint job somewhat takes away from the classic vessel but as the photos show in her original Gentleman’s Cruiser colours, she is a sight to behold. The aft deck is large and spacious with storage boxes that double as a sitting area, and a bridge wheelhouse for cruising in fair weather. Two alleyways either side of the wheelhouse lead to the large stern deck where there is a new Lofrans Royal Windlass and Gypsy and new 100 metre steal anchor chain. Down the steps into the spacious wheelhouse, the helm has a traditional instrument cluster and the boat’s engine instruments have been rewired along with the 4 x 180w solar panels that sit above the wheelhouse. The wheelhouse also has a deiseal heater.
In the engine bays are 2 x 120hp Ford Sabre engines powering Borg Warner Velvet Drive gearboxes, these are commercial grade gearboxes and extremely popular engines with a great reputation. The engines have been reconditioned by a Ford Sabre engine specialist who has replaced all filters, the bronze cooling stacks, heat exchanges, new hoses, all fluids drained and restored. The engines have been pressure tested and the engineer told us they would easily run for another 40 years. Details of the engineer can be provided. Three new Whaler bilge pumps have also been installed with automatic and manual override switches.
All skin fittings have been replaced with new bronze fittings, including replacement sea water strainers for the engine intakes. Stern of the wheelhouse there are provisions for a toilet to the starboard side and shower to the port side. The galley way leads to the forward cabins which can comfortably contain 2 berths, or 4 if they are bunks. The Stern of the boat provides ample storage and the chain locker for the anchor chain. Aft of the wheelhouse opens into the large saloon area containing a wood burning stove and a marine grade three gas ring cooker with oven.
Beneath the frames in this area the drive gear has been reconditioned and replaced including 2 new Python Drive CV joints with bespoke stainless steal brackets including bespoke fixings, 2 new drive shafts. 2 x reconditioned full rudder assemblies, 2 propellers, 2 x stern tubes all in solid bronze reconditioned by C and O engineering of Newton Abbott. The aft cabin is large enough for a fully fitted double bedroom. There are 3 large water containers for on board water storage that can form the basis for the double bed in the aft cabin. As you would expect, this 40 year old girl needs some further work to make her seaworthy, the extent of the work required on the boat will be dependent on your plans for her, if your plan is to have a floating home in the stunning Millbrook marina and not take her to sea, the work would be much reduced.
