Engine Make: Mariner
Country/Region of Manufacture: United Kingdom
For Sale is our The Hunter Minstrel 23. Please see the 3 YouTube video links at end of this description. It is also worthwhile watching a series of YouTube videos called “Keep Turning Left “ that also show a Hunter Minstrel being sailed in and around the UK. My son and I have owned and used Quester for 2 seasons trailering it back and forth each season between Salcombe/Dartmouth and Stratford Upon Avon. It was bought with the intention of keeping it long term and any improvements have been done with this in mind. However, we've been offered a share in a friend's 36 ft yacht which we are going to take.
This is also a long term commitment and we can't afford to keep the Minstrel as well as investing in a bigger yacht so, regrettably it is up for sale. In my opinion there is not a better preserved and upgraded Hunter Minstrel or similar boat available anywhere. She is dry and clean. The GRP hull and deck were fabricated in 1990 and fitted out for launching in 1992. I am not aware that she has ever been moored over winter.
She is the perfect trailer sailer and Creek crawler as well as being an excellent coastal Explorer. She has a Gunter rig and the mast can be easily lowered and raised by one person making it easy to get under bridges. She has spent many years on the Norfolk Broads where the previous owner had a Gin pole constructed (include in sale) to make it a very easy and simple one man operation to drop and raise the mast. The Hunter Minstrel (and Liberty) range of small yachts was designed by David Thomas. She has tough small bilge keels that allowed her to sit upright when drying out and draw just 12” with the centre plate raised.
Even with the centre plate raised the small bilge keels still give it stability and it can easily be maneuvered under sail or motor in shallow water. With the keel down she has a draft of 3’6”. She has a separate head which is a much more private when you are sailing with someone than a porta potti in the cabin. The Thetford 775 MSP chemical toilet in the heads can either be used to retain the waste as required on inland waters such as the Broads or pumped out to sea if coastal sailing via the Munster sims hand pump. There is a mushroom vent, lighting, storage, coat hooks and a collapsible water container in the heads compartment.
The accommodation inside is in excellent condition throughout. Engine: Mariner 6 h.p. 4 stroke, long shaft outboard. It does not have a separate fuel header tank or electric take off. It was new in 2007 and is in excellent condition.
Electrical installation: There are 2x 12 volt 110 amp leisure batteries. New in 2017. Located on the starboard side under the quarter berth to aid balance. They are connected with cut off switches and to a 40 amp circuit breaker. There is a 240 volt shore lead that connects to 2 sockets protected by an RCD.
There is a fixed mains 2 kilowatt heater.Navigation lights. Masthead light and an Ariel. There is also 2 solar panels controlled by a sun savers 6 digital controller and battery monitor. Instruments: Steering compass. Navman echo sounder.
Nav Text weather information. AIS display. Simrad DHS VHF radio which is connected to a Garmin GPS 72 h to give an emergency GPS fix . Separate Garmin GPSMAP 451s providing Nav Charts and depth and Fishfinder information. The fresh water system is a SeaFlex flexible water tank which is housed on the port side and with an external water filler point.
A 10 mm copper pipe leads to a cockpit exit point. Electrically operated water supply via a whale 12v pump. These are sterilized annually. I am not aware that any Hunter Minstrel's or Liberty's have ever had them changed. Unlike some other yachts they are not an issue. Probably because they are small stubby heavy duty keels. They are easy to inspect as the bolts on the starboard keel are in the lockers under the seats and on the port keel they are under the toilet.re question on moorings: answer-In Salcombe It is moored for the season at Winters Marine at Lincombe boat yard on a mud mooring accessible 2 hours either side of high water.
2018 is £625+vat. I remove it and put it on the Harbour Masters deep water moorings for however long I'm down there.re question on towing weight: answer- I think your asking what is the actual towing weight because your car can not tow 1800kg? I do not know the actual total towing weight of the combined trailer and boat, however, you have to assume the total towing weight is the plated total towing weight on the trailer, which is 1800kg. This is because it is illegal to tow it with a car not rated to tow at least the plated trailer towing weight of 1800kg or more. Even if the trailer is empty it is still illegal to tow it with anything less than a car capable of towing 1800kg.
I'm sorry that this might not be the answer you were looking for. Thank You for looking.
