Hurley Silhouette Mk3 Sailing Boat And Trailer Project.

I have owned this Silhouette (my third) for a couple of years and would not be selling her if I had not already bought another larger boat. I fully intended to restore her to her former glory but with two other larger boats I just haven't had the time and now I need the space. Silhouettes draw very little water floating in less than two feet and the bilge keel versions can be beached as they will happily sit on their keels and await the next tide. This gives you the chance to explore some of the rivers around our coast that larger boats just can't reach. They are normally configured with two berths so nights out or weekends away are an option.

You will not find many boats that are this much fun in this price range. Now is the perfect time to refit a small boat if you want to be in the water in the Spring. Make no mistake she needs work. I have not been inside so cannot attest to the condition of the joinery but I would assume that there will be work to be done but the interiors are very basic to begin with. The running rigging will need replacing and for the price I would renew the standing rigging as well.

The mast and boom are sound and she has a nearly new mainsail (worth a few hundred pounds) plus a hank on foresail. I would have fitted a roller furling but that's a matter of preference. Other jobs will include new rubbing strake, and replacement perspex for the windows, there is a firm in Colchester that will cut them for you although there are probably companies all around the country. There will of course be a ton of other jobs there always are which is why I would encourage you to take a look and make your own list. I have two locker covers off another Silhouette that are refurbished newly painted and now surplice to requirement I will throw in so that's one job done.

I am not concerned at how much I get for her or if she goes for 99p but I would like to see her back on the water where she belongs one day. These are beautiful looking craft solidly built and she deserves to sail for another 50 years which she could easily if you have the time and skills to put bring her back to shipshape again. The trailer got her from Cornwall to Essex but I make no claims for it's legality and would recommend that you make your own inspection. Hurley silhouettes are dearly loved and there is an active owners association where you can meet other owners, ask advice and even attend sailing events.
