Description:
International Tempest Sailing Dinghy + road trailer, need some work - Bargain RELISTED DUE TO TIMEWASTER - THANKS ALXE In Fair condition, but needs some work, has been in storage for years so ideally wants painting and re-commissioning. Everything is present to my knowledge, includes sails and sail cover. The Tempest is a racing keelboat, built predominantly of fiberglass, with wood trim (needs some finishing & tidying, previous owner had embarked on this). It has a fractional sloop rig with aluminum spars. The hull has a spooned raked stem, a plumb transom, an internally mounted spade-type rudder controlled by a tiller and a lifting, weighted, bulb keel.It displaces 1,021 lb (463 kg) and carries 440 lb (200 kg) of lead keel ballast. Construction includes three transverse bulkheads to aid flotation. The boat has a rear deck above the rudder. The boat has a draft of 3.58 ft (1.09 m) with the keel locked in the extended position Had an accident when emptying water from hull, it has tipped up and damaged the rudder, so will need a new one making. Kept it was a template. The hardware is all OK though. See images 12 The boat was selected as an Olympic class and raced at the 1972 and the 1976 Summer Olympics. The boat is supported by an active class club that organizes racing events, the International Tempest Class Association. Google for the website. In a 1994 review Richard Sherwood wrote, "the International Class Tempest was an Olympic boat in 1972 and 1976.She is fast. Tempest is a one-design, and class rules are strict ... The mast’s design and material are optional, but the mast may not rotate. Older boats have thicker, stiffer masts and, in addition to the diamond shrouds and spreaders found today, additional swept-back spreaders. Good racing boats are light at the ends and rigid, although this is not necessary in the deck ... Only one person may use the trapeze, and safety equipment is required. Also just noticed the trailer has one support which has come loose. The Trailer has just had a tyre replaced and wheels greased so is roadworthy BUT included free of charge and not sure how far I'd want to tow it. Also it has quite a bit of rust but main structure seems solid. Sails in good condition, see pictures. I believe it is from 1979 and am told it was originally used by the Swedish Olympic Team but have nothing to verify this other than heresy. You are welcome to come and view at our home near Ulverston (South Lakes) if you wish.Item to be paid for and collected within 48 hours of auction end please. Please note you are bidding to buy, I have no reserve and simply want it out of the way as it is clear I am never going to get around to sorting it out myself.
