I purchased this boat for £6.5k October last year, paid another £800 to get it transported to Grimsby from Kent, added £3k of electronics and navigation gear, FLiR forward facing camera which comes up on the big colour screen and see's in the dark! Fenders and bits, added a brand new Lewmar Pro 1000H electric windlass, 400W speakers with stereo, solar panel, new massive batteries, went out fishing and overheated and broke down. After letting it cool down for a bit it started back up and I got it back to the marina. I purchased this thinking it was a good boat, I was wrong. Its been 3 months since I went out on it, in the last two months the guy who runs the marina has rebuilt the top end, new glow plugs, new gaskets, he's either repaired or replaced the water pump, filters and he's even fitted new Oil pressure gauge, Water temp gauge and Rev counter.
This work cost me another £700 and although it doesn't overheat anymore he says there is something causing the engine to stall at low revs and I've heard it's an easy fix but that's not from him but from the marina gossip line, he says it runs fine until you drop the revs and then it stalls like something is drawing on the engine, god knows what that means. I have decided boating is not for me anymore, It has made me ill. I know I wont get my money back but I wont sell for peanuts either. Happy to part ex for a nice Rolex but it must has box, papers and pref the original receipt, or I'll take £6k cash and that's a bargain if the engine is an easy fix. Details are below.
I listed this before but was convinced it would be an easy fix and cheap, like I said £700 and 2 months later I'm no closer to using it. Friday 10th February Update from the guy fixing it: He's changed and sorted the oil filter (it had a bit missing), the engine ran steady at 80c for 15 mins and didn't cut out when back to idle, so he's hopeful, He's still investigating/fixing it and it continually testing. This boat is for sale fixed or not. At present I'm selling it as a project as a cannot guarantee the status of it. It may well be tested and confirmed fixed before the auction ends.
If it does get fixed I will post another update. Boat name Kitty Island Plastics 28 wheelhouse Engine is a BMC 2.5 diesel, shaft drive to propeller, top speed 12 knots, cruising speed 8 knots. Boats runs and drives but the problem is the diesel injector pump needs replacing/renewing.
He's quoted £300 - £600 depending on what needs doing. Its a specialist part so it needs to go away for refurb. It may be cheaper to find one on the internet and replace it. He's happy to show anyone around the boat, start it and explain the problem. Just contact Ian at Alexander Marina, Grimsby.
