This boat is still for sale, I have had plenty of offers and have rejected an offer of £5.5k cash. I'm still trying to get it fixed or at least find out what the problem really is, I've now got assistance from other people and together they are hopefull but a little confused that it is still overheating. If I fix it, I keep it. But I have already been trying to get it fixed since September last year, that's the reason it is still for sale. There is no trailer, it's in the water at Alexander Marina, Grimsby. I have the keys so if you want to buy it you contact me and arrange a viewing.
I live 75 miles away so only arrange a visit if you want to buy it. This is a solid built, full wheelhouse boat, its very well equipped and will last forever. I purchased this boat for £6.5k end of August last year, paid another £800 to get it transported to Grimsby from Kent, added £3k of electronics and navigation gear, FLiR forward facing camera which comes up on the big colour screen and see's in the dark! Fenders and bits, added a brand new Lewmar Pro 1000H electric windlass, 400W speakers with stereo, solar panel, new massive batteries, gave it a good clean and anti foul, added 2x2 fender baskets with 6 F3 fenders in nice navy blue fender socks. I went out fishing and overheated.
Ian at the marina thought it may have been a air block so when I got back into port (on my own steam) he bled the head, topped up my header tank and I tried again to go out fishing. I got out further this time. It was about an hour then it overheated again. When I purchased the boat I was told the previous owner had had the head skimmed, new glow plugs and had the fuel pump and injectors sent away for refirb. This was going to be my last season as I have been due to go into Hospital but I've been putting it off because I love going out to sea on my boat and once I have my surgeries it could be two years before I am well enough to do it again and there is a big possibility I will never return to boating.
Ian at the marina (he runs it and is also a mechanic) has over the last two months rebuilt the top end, head skimmed, pressure tested the head and the head is fine, compression tested the cylinders and that was all good, fitted new glow plugs, a thermostat, repaired or replaced the water pump, filters and he's even fitted new Oil pressure gauge, Water temp gauge and Rev counter. This work cost me another £700 and its still the same problem. I ran this boat against the pontoon, under load @ 1700 rpm, after 15 mins it started to smoke a bit off the engine, after 30mins the revs dropped by 100 and temp rose above 80, after 45mins the temp went up to 100 so I pulled back on the throttle, it cut out and turned the water in the header tank to steam. It cut out because it was hot. When the engine is cold is works as an engine should, after a squirt of the easy start stuff.
This is the exact same problem as it had when I purchased it. I've had plenty of opinions from people as to what the issue is, some have said just flush the engine as it's probably got sludge in it because it was stood for a few years before I purchased it. Others have said its possibly a blockage somewhere. I am still trying to fix it but my resources are limited. The engine runs fine and sounds fine until it gets hot.
Happy to part ex for a nice Rolex (submariner) but it must has box, papers and pref the original receipt, or I'll take £6k cash and that's a bargain if the engine is an easy fix. Details are below. I listed this before but was convinced it would be an easy fix and cheap. I was also told that I needed to replace the diesel injection pump but I have since had other people check and they say it doesn't. As I said the price is £6k cash or px a rolex submariner and cash.
If I fix it before someone buys it then it will be no longer available for sale. I'm giving myself an easy out as I'm very disappointed with it.
