For sale is my 17’ V8 jet boat. This is a 17' Fonda speed boat hull with a Rover V8 with 4 barrel downdraft Edelbrock carb and manifold, coupled to a Vospower PP65 Jet Drive with new stainless machined driveshaft (£250) and new stock impeller sheath (£130). Both parts new in 2018.Water-cooled Nicson exhaust manifolds (extremely rare £750 secondhand). Custom closed-loop cooling system feeding raw water off jet drive, through Bowman heat-exchanger and then injected into fabricated risers with no mufflers... sounds fantastic! All Bowman parts are still available for this unit on their website for the future and the closed loop means that salt water does not run through the engine which hugely reduces corrosion.
Foot throttle, commercial grade genuine teleflex steering and reverse/neutral bucket cables (in neutral she will literally spin 360 left or right on the spot using the steering wheel; far more manoeuvrable than any outboard or outdrive!) Kill cord, and starts using a stainless steel button Electric, float operated bilge pump I’ve done a lot of work on this boat and trailer over the past 18 months including: New floors, new carpets, new front bucket seats (on sliders) and rear seats, new upholstery, new hoses all round in the engine bay, new fuel pump and fuel lines, rocker covers and manifolds powder coated, new battery, new engine cover…there’s probably more but I can’t recall it all. The trailer is road legal and in good condition and has got a new winch, new tyres, new bearings, new suspension units, new rollers and a lick of paint. There’s a working light board to go with it if you want it and don’t have your own. There’s also a waterproof cover to come with the boat. All the hard work is done and she really flies and is great fun.
We’ve had her up to about 46 mph and there’s more to go! And since all the work was done on her, she’d only been run in fresh water. What’s left ot do? There is some more work to be done on the gel coat which is not in perfect condition. There were some scrapes and bashes on the hull when we bought the boat and these have all been filled but I’ve not had time to sand them down and polish them yet.
The trim lever is not connected at the moment and this would be simple job to do as both the lever and the trim work fine and it just needs a cable. I’ve not done it so far as we’ve never found we needed to adjust the trim. At the moment there’s only a temperature gauge on the dash but there’s space and cut outs behind so you could mount a rev counter, speedo, fuel gauge etc if you wanted to… we just haven’t got around to it yet. The temperature gauge works but is a bit intermittent and I think it needs a new sender. Have a look at the youtube video to see her in action!
