Laurent Giles design Audacity design yacht cruiser/ day boat, 'Salaam'. **relisted due to accidental bid**This was my late father's retirement project and was completely refurbished in the early 2000s and used extensively around Kent and Essex for cruising and day sailing. A Laurent Giles design (sponsored by the News Chronicle), built by Walter Lawrence & Son. 21.4, shoal draft, thoroughly restored to as-new condition in the early 2000s, has new sails and equipment including reefing Genoa, tiller pilot and depth sounder, around the same time a new forepeak hatch was fitted and a new anchor (with several fathoms of chain) along with a new chemical toilet and an Origo stove. She was also re-rigged (by R.
Joiner of Whitstable). The hull and woodwork are in excellent condition, being made of cold-moulded ply. This is very strong and as low maintenance as you can get short of fibre glass (see photos- no seams or cracks)- this was a construction technique pioneered on aircraft such as the De Havilland Mosquito of WW2! She has been laid up for over four years, is being sold as a small straightforward project, so is in need of some fitting out and painting. Its alloy mast is stored nearby, but separately from the boat. She originally came with a 4HP Stuart Turner engine; this was replaced by an outboard mounted in a well (work carried out by Alan Staley at Iron Wharf, Faversham).
No outboard is currently fitted. Apart from this, all relevant equipment is included. A survey c.2006 described her as being 'as new' and her value was estimated at around £6000. The asking starting bid reflects the rather slack market currently for this type of boat and also the fact that she needs fitting out and is best described as a 'project', albeit a fairly straight forward one. The boat laid up is ashore in Faversham, Kent can be viewed by arrangements. Questions?
I'll be happy to hear from you, please message me via classifieds board. Many more photos available (including her restoration c.1998-2001, and of her commission), as is all relevant paperwork. Photos show her last summer. We are open to reasonable offers and storage in the yard is paid for up until the end of March 2017. She is advertised elsewhere.
Payment: As the auction price is low, I would like to avoid PayPal fees - cash on collection or bank transfer would be prefered. You can of course still pay by PayPal, but will be responsible for the PayPal transaction fees.
