The boat is a Schatt Harding MCB28 fully enclosed, self-righting lifeboat and is fitted with a SABB Lister L3.139 LB 3 cylinder engine which has been used for less than 20 hours in total ! Dimensions are 8.5 x 3.5 x 4.5 metres (LxWxH)Changes in regulations has forced a lot of oil companies to change their lifeboats for larger capacity vessels. The boat when new was worth well in excess of £120,000 and was fully kitted with seating for 60 persons, with an external water curtain and internal pressurized air system plus survival provisions. Work carried out so far : - External o surfaces prepared and painted with a marine chlorinated vinyl.o larger windows fitted to sides of wheelhouse.o addition of navigation lights, mooring cleats, ropes and fenders plus anchor.o the integrated propeller rudder has also been extended with the addition of a stainless steel extension to improve manoeuvrability.o fitting of external fuel filler and vent. - Internal o all hard seating and rails, compressed air bottles, deluge pump and excess deluge pipework have been removed.

The Black Pig – the name of the lifeboat - is moored on the Leeds Liverpool Canal at White Bear Marina, Adlington, Lancashire in a prime location where there is 24 hour security with CCTV cameras and security gates. Answers to some commonly asked questions : - the specification for survival craft builds does not get any higher than these Norwegian boats- the vessel is fit and certified to navigate all canals on the British Waterways network- it is recommended that a minimum of a 2 persons crew for rope handling at locks etc. - steering is hydraulic with option for manual selection and an alloy tiller.- throttle/fwd/rev is Morse single lever SL3.- fuel tank is full with 360 litres of diesel.- the internal floatation on both sides and roof can be modified to gain extra space without compromising the structural strength of the vessel.- all structural metal work, lifting points, hatch covers, handles etc are marine grade stainless steel with aluminium deluge tubing and as such there is no corrosion.
