Narrowboat — 42 foot Springer Moored in Hackney, London (please note that the mooring is not included and is not part of the sale), this 1975/1976 42 foot Springer Cruiser Stern-style narrowboat was our home (two adults and one—at that point—small child) for nearly six years. While the boat needs some work, its living area is lovely, and features an all wood-panelled interior in tongue-and-groove softwood. It has a kitchen, a dining area that converts to a double bed when needed, two single bunks and a bathroom area (currently with chemical toilet), which can be closed off from the rest of the boat. I am re-listing the boat as the engine is now in working order (though should be serviced before extended use and/or cruising — the boat comes with a guide to the engine, as well as operating instructions). Also included is a brand new battery.
Since last listing, the boat has also been upgraded, with the engine area cleaned and any areas of the hull’s interior that are easily accessible, along with drainage channels, have been freshly painted. Decking to the engine area has been newly installed and painted in four to five coats of primer and non-slip exterior floor paint. A new hatch to the boat’s entry at stern has also be installed and similarly primed and painted. There are two new 12’ ash bargepoles. The boat has two fire extinguishers.
I have arranged a viewing day for those who would like to see the boat. This will be Sunday 9 August. Eight 50-minute slots are available, from 9am, on the hour, with the last viewing at 4pm. The slots will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. As the boat is moored within a canal and riverboat community, we need to respect the other residents, so visitors will need to wear facemasks and gloves during visits, and maintain social distancing.
Mains electricity has also been reinstated, with the landline connection to mains power being brand new. The 12v power supply will need to be looked at, as will the boiler, with the 12v power supply currently being intermittent (the freshwater pump supplying drinking water from the tank in the boat’s bow runs off the 12v supply) and the boiler not in working order. The boat's hull was blacked in 2015 and it has a valid Boat Safety Scheme certificate to 2023. The boat also has non-transferable Marine Third Party Liability Insurance with MS Amlin (cover up to £3,000.000.00). While needing to be confirmed by a new owner, I have been told by the insurer that similar cover can be provided to a new owner on the sale of the boat.
The above cover currently costs £92.40 per annum. The personal items in the boat are not included in the offer. The boat is to be sold as seen and must be removed from its Basin mooring to the Regent’s Canal on completion. The asking price is currently £13,750.00.
