Keen to take them with me ;) After selling my original boat from 6 years on the water, I decided that open plan narrowboats look great in photos, but I bought this second boat for the unbeatable fitted storage solutions whist maintaining a good layout. The effectiveness of the heating system and the unusually thick hull side plate (8.5mm) which should mean this boat is unlikely to ever need re-plating from any corrosion are other reasons I chose this boat. I planned to live here for many years but the only reason to leave now is a growing family. This boat is too gorgeous to refit again for my changing needs. I hope she goes to the right person as is! Original build year 1988, seems to be putting some people off despite steel quality being better then than the 2000s.
One long ownership plus myself and another for 2 years prior. Sitting quietly in Birmingham for many years. No overplating on the hull. Side plate spec is unusually thick at 8.5mm and no internal rusting at all thanks to trad stern engine room. Heating system - Danish Refleks 61MS diesel stove – much cleaner and more convenient than any wood/coal burner.
You will never be cold on this vessel! Professionally installed with radiators throughout and hot water calorifier. Just light with a tiny block of fire lighter, turn the tap on and thats it until you turn it off again. I will miss this and am tempted to take it with me ;) - No electricity or pumps required, plus you get the stove flue heat like any other stove rather than Webasto diesel heaters that just heat radiators. Heat directly from stove flue and eco fan for living room 3 x radiators throughout boat inc bedroom Refleks stove heats hot water in winter via a calorifier instead of the Paloma instant gas water heater, so two options there.
Engine - Perkins D3 / A3.152 3 cylinder 45hp Recent double oil flush, new filters, new coolant, summer 2020 All new hoses 2019 - 2020 No glow plugs required as this engine is direct injection - never failed to start first time every time in 2 seconds Cruised from Birmingham, to Oxford, Reading, across to Bristol, back to Reading, and London trouble free Skin tank closed cooling system Full head height engine room for good tool storage and access to a dry engine for maintenance and servicing Batteries/power - 12v system + 240v via inverter or shore power hookup 6 x 2v forklift traction batteries wired in series as one large 560amp ah 12v. Extreme deep cycle, heavy thick lead plates, can be topped up with water. Likely to never need replacing for 10 years with the current set up/power audit. Fully accessible and protected from the elements in the engine room. 1 x starter battery.
Only needs a second or two to start this engine so will likely never need replacing 1000w pure sine wave inverter. Cheaper but much quieter and fault free compared to my rip off broken loud Sterling one! Solar - Textured fibreglass solar panel, 250W semi-flexible solar panel (made in Austria) MPPT regulator for the above 240v throughout, RCD box, fuse trip system etc all fitted professionally at time of build. Sterling Pro Reg BW smart regulator for fast boost charging to batteries from engine/alternator – I've relied on this charging system on boats since 2011. Very efficient!
Charges battery bank several times faster than without this device if using alternator alone. Kitchen - Paloma gas water heater, serviced and running as always Electrolux RM2260 70ltr 3 way fridge, running from gas only for preference. 240 or 12v takes too much power for this style. Currently holding 3x13kg propane, can house 19kg if preferred No internal hull rust, including bow deck which has drained well throughout its years, ypu cqn inspect at your leisure! Boat originally painted in red oxide inside and out prior to top coats, can still be seen almost as new in engine bay and under blacking on the hull No water ingress or corrosion in engine bay or the swim plates at all due to trad stern and good paint protection Steel secure bow doors and mortice lock with pane glass (great for light and too small to smash for break ins) Steel side hatches in engine room and kitchen with solid wood backing Welded security bars in two appropriate windows that open more fully than others Full cabin and internal repaint 2018-19 and final touches 2020 New anodes x 6 and 5 coats of bitumen on the hull 2018 Previous blacking 2016 Due for blacking 2021 but advised to do it if you wish to have a survey to save taking it out again in a year Boat safety until 15/05/2023 Unsure of water tank size but not small and also have 200ltr extra water butts just because we have a child now! Lighting - All warm white LED strip throughout with switches at each fitting USB and plug in warm white fairy lights throughout also The photos are true to the boat, but you'll see much clutter when viewing due to my family living situation. Use the photos to imagine what it would be like without us! This boat has had major renovations since the last survey and thus no previous survey is of any use.
A brand new survey due next month with no expected faults or advisories, but they will be addressed at the time if needed. Priced to sell on this assumption and possible increase if valued higher.
