Lovely little 1985 Dartline 38ft traditional stern narrowboat. Very reasonably priced to achieve a quick no hassle sale, similar boats have been sold recently for thousands of pounds more than my buy it now price. Although Dartline is a common hire boat builder I do not believe this was used as a hire boat, the previous owners owned it for most of its life and used it on a regular basis for trips out on the system. In very good condition throughout, this was a project that I started, but due to health issues find difficult to complete, at this moment. In the pictures you will see a white vinyl type of material on the ceiling.
I have taken this down and replaced it with pine T&G and varnished it in light oak, this gave a lot more headroom as the old vinyl material was sagging. The Lights have been removed but I will replace them with new items before sale, and I will also include the T&G to complete the small bit left to do in the bathroom. It was also my intention to re-carpet the whole boat as the original floor covering got messed up when I took the vinyl covering of the ceiling, but I will clean up the carpet tiles as best as I can. Entering from the rear deck you go through the engine room, this has a 3 cylinder engine, I will add more details on Friday regarding the make and model, starts well and sounds lovely. Engine has been well maintained and looked after by previous owners for many years.
From the engine room you go down a couple of steps to the bedroom, this has a bed that can slide forward and allow for an extra cushion to be placed at the back to make a small double bed. Under the bed is the hot water tank. There is 1 radiator. A narrow corridor leads to the bathroom, this has a cassette toilet but the boat has a pump out system that could be re-instated if preferred. There is a sink and a hip bath with a shower over. !
Radiator in the bathroom. At the end of the corridor is the kitchen area, with very good condition full size gas cooker, fan above, sink, and a 12volt fridge, I have never used these but believe them all to be in perfect working order. There are a range of cupboards and worktops all in excellent condition. There is a living area at the front of the boat which I have just fitted a small sofa in, although it would be easy to remove and put 2 recliner chairs in, which is how the previous owners had it. There is 1 radiator in the living area.
The heating is Aldi gas central heating, not tested by myself but will be done before sale, the living area has the front doors leading out onto the front deck, this has a small but good sized seating area, and a gas locker, holding 2 13kg bottles, which is of the wet locker type. It was my intention to change this into a dry locker and use smaller 6kg gas bottles. I believe the Dartline boats used 6mm steel on their bases and sides, there is a surveyor report from 2014 showing minimal wear, so all should be good, it would be up to any potential purchaser to arrange their own surveys if they so desired, at their own costs, before agreeing to purchase. The boat runs a 12volt only system and does not have a landline fitted, a basic landline system with battery charger and a couple of electric sockets, could be arranged to be fitted by a boat engineer on site, for a reasonable cost if you would like that to be done after purchase. She has a boat safety certificate until 2021 and I would assume the blacking needs to be done this year.
This is a lovely little boat needing very little TLC, and could be ideal for a 1 or 2 person live aboard, you could use her straight away and enjoy the summer. She is moored at a marina near Whitchurch in Shropshire, there are mooring spaces available there and it is ideal to cruise the Llangollen canal system. Obviously the mooring has to be arranged through the marina office, they do 3, 6 or 12 month contracts at good prices. Any questions or if you wish to view the boat please contact me via the classifieds board site in the first instance.
