Here we go again again . . . Re-listed due to a SECOND No-Show auction winner, I know it's grim up north but the roads are fine, we have law enforcement, smooth tarmac, service stations and Travel Lodges just like everywhere else. If it doesn't sell this time, the Sabre is going back into storage, it's superb old school Mercury outboard will only get more valuable with time. Plancraft Sabre with six cylinder Mercury 115 and galvanised Road Trailer This fast boat and it’s trailer are very light, easily towed with a smaller family car and easily launched single handed, it's ready to use and enjoy this summer.
Hull and Decks: A Mk3 Sabre manufactured by Plancraft Marine between 1984 and 1996 numbered 88-85 (1985 or 1988 maybe?), glass fibre reinforced resin construction with a marine ply floor, 16’-7” long weighing just 315kg without the engine and ancillaries. The hull is in excellent condition considering it’s some 30 years old having benefitted from indoor storage for many years, however there are a number of external use related scratches and scuffs, a small crack in the screen and some gelcoat cracking around the upper ski post mount, none of which compromise the integrity or usability of the craft. I’ve tried to capture all of these minor faults in the additional pictures - see link below. Interior: The striking interior is great condition, it appears to have been refurbished in recent years however there are a few use related marks, all of which I’ve tried to capture in the additional pictures - see link below. The original ply floor and forward framing are in great condition with no sign of rot or damage.
Mercury 115: A super clean corrosion free unrestored 1986 example of the classic in-line six cylinder two stroke originally marketed by Mercury as ‘The Tower Of Power’. This pre-mix lubricated 1635cc in-line six cylinder outboard is rated 115hp at the propeller shaft (about 135hp at the flywheel) with matching A907xxx series numbers on the power head and swivel bracket. The motor is equipped with the optional hydraulic power lift/trim and the correct Quicksilver helm. In May this year, the motor was fitted with a new genuine Quicksilver water pump (body and impeller), new NGK plugs and a new starter battery. Unfortunately the period accessory rev counter connected to helm accessory socket does not work and I’ve not had time to find out why.
The motor starts very easily and runs smoothly now that the excess winter lay-up oil has been displaced by fresh pre-mix during a recent fifteen minute run on the flushing adapter. I’ve captured some of the test run on video – see link below. Trailer: An excellent condition twin axle, un-braked galvanised trailer with adjustable bunks, keel rollers, hand winch and spare wheel. In May this year, the trailer had new wheel bearings installed, all packed with water resistant marine grease and the winch was fitted with a new 7 metre polystrap. All of the tyres are in sound condition with decent tread depth.
Accessories: The Sabre comes with a bespoke fitted waterproof cover for the hull, a generic waterproof cover for the engine, a chromed steel ski pole, an engine flushing adapter, a trailer lighting board, three new ratchet straps for securing the Sabre to it’s trailer (you may wish to add more) and a choice of modern 30L plastic fuel tank with internal gauge or a period Quicksilver steel tank with internal gauge (only one tank supplied, the second available at additional cost).
