A rare chance to bid on a highly sought-after Porta-Bote, a fantastic large (3 person) dinghy which folds to the size of a surfboard. Perfect for the summer. The equivalent new versions of this package would you set you back the best part of £3,000. It can be stored in a small garden or garage and will fit on the roofbars of your car! For use on sea or freshwater.
Unlike an inflatable, this boat is not troubled by rocks and sharp surfaces. No puncture repair kit needed here. These boats are rare on classifieds board and much prized. This is a comprehensive bundle of kit for both motor boat use and sailing and includes: The classic 3-seat Porta-Bote, including transom for outboard and fittings for sail. The boat is made of polypropylene, an engineered resin developed for the aerospace industry, designed to last for decades.
A 2.5hp Tohatsu 2-stroke petrol outboard motor, which has been engineered to 3.5hp. The motor was serviced last year by a specialist (paperwork included) and has been used only once since, in fresh waterSail, ropes and polesRowing oarsTrolleyAnchorFull bottle of engine oil, petrol can, funnel This is probably the most versatile dinghy you can buy. It has been used extensively in the sea, rivers and lakes. It is fully functional, watertight and is a joy to use. As always with use in seawater, there are some cosmetic matters - as seen in one of the photos, where some bolts have been replaced by the previous owner, some rust has discoloured the boat around the bolts.
The edges of the seats, where they slide into brackets, are a little frayed - the previous owner ingeniously solved this by coating the ends with wood glue. The seats need periodic painting/varnishing as they are wood. It is undoubtedly in used condition but that all adds to its charm! I'm not sure of its age, possibly 20 to 25 years or so. The buyer will need to collect from Liphook, Hants (GU30) and will need roofbars on their car or a large van.
I will happily give a demonstration of how to unfold and put the boat together and mount the engine, so will need a dry day for collection. I have never used the sail and kit, but I do have the original instructions for assembling this. Reluctantly selling as I have ordered a brand new motorised kayak. You can learn more about Porta-Boat generally here: https://www.porta-bote.com/ and http://www.portableboatshop.com/page3.htm, although the boat I am selling is an older model than the ones seen on these sites. A modern version of this boat would cost you £2,030 plus an equivalent engine at £599 plus hundreds for the sail kit and trolley.
Despite what the listing says, I cannot post or deliver these items, collection only.
