Project Boat - Bruce Roberts Spray 27

This is an opportunity to buy via. Auction a project sailing boat, which we believe to be a Bruce Roberts Spray 27 motor sailor yacht. Re-listed due to timewaster. Length 27ft, Beam 8ft 6, Draft 2' 9" Weight estimate approx 3 tons. The boat was home completed in 1997, sailed around the Irish Sea, and then sold in 2009 to the present owner, who set about modifying the boat to his requirements, and has since abandoned it in our boatyard.

The construction is steel. A survey in 2009 showed hull thickness ranging from 3.1mm on the hull sides to 4.7mm on the hull bottom. (The original owner stated it was built with 4mm plate on the hull bottom and 3mm on the hull sides. The 2009 survey showed that these thicknesses were still present. Records show that the boat then spent approx 3 1/2 years afloat between 2010 and 2014, and she has been ashore again ever since.

We don't think she ever left the marina in the 3 1/2 years while it was afloat. We are not permitted by specific copyright instructions to distribute copies of the survey - but we will make it available for viewing at our offices. The survey in 2009 was conducted when the boat was very much in commission, and was described then as a "fine example of its type and model". The boat has been thoroughly "gutted" by its current owner, and has been abandoned for around 3 years - so we are describing the boat as not for purpose as a boat in commission in its current condition, it is described a project boat. The vessel is sold as seen.

The engine is a Perkins diesel 41hp KF104 - fitted new in 2001, and we believe has less than 200 hours running time - but the engine has not run for around 4 years. We are describing the engine as a non-runner - but we are very confident that it will be able to be made to run again. The cockpit canopy was new during the current ownership - and is perhaps a little faded but otherwise seems in good condition. The mainsail is still in the boom, and we believe it will be in serviceable condition. The foresail has been dry stored indoors and looks in serviceable condition.

The final photo in the description shows what she looked like in 2009....she was absolutely beautiful then. We are not boat builders or surveyors, so we will not be drawn into any discussions about the extent and nature of any required refurbishment or estimate any costs to refurbish. Buyers are encouraged to engage their own marine surveyor or engineer to inspect the vessel prior to purchase. The decks may be slippery so please wear appropriate footwear. The winning bidder will be given full title to the boat by way of a Bill Of Sale once payment in full has been received in cleared funds. Two choices are then available for the new owner; 1) The new owner must remove the boat in its entirety from Preston Marina within 7 days. Nothing must be removed from the boat during that time. We estimate the weight of the boat to be around 3 tons (estimate only) but we are confident a HGV will be required to move the boat.

We do not offer boat transport so the new owner will need to make their own arrangements for this. Our price to unstep the mast and lay on deck for transport is £132 and our price to lift the boat to suitable road transport trailer is £149 inc VAT. Total is £281. 2) The new owner may keep the boat here at Preston Marina subject to application and approval - with appropriate insurance in place arranged by the new owner. Berthing fees for the boat are £1,604 inc VAT per year if paid all in advance or a 12 month contact for £147 per month (with a minimum of 6 months berthing paid in advance at the start of the berthing contract = £882).

Living aboard is NOT permitted on this vessel.
